These are the mainline Mario games Ive never played, plus Captain Toad which just came out with the definitive version for Switch today. Never played the original.

3D Land is an amazingly underrated gem.

It's like the lovechild of Galaxy and SMB3.

Galaxy 2 was my favorite Mario game until Odyssey came along. Depending on what you value in game design, I could still recognize Galaxy 2 as the best! It's really good.

After being a completionist through World 4, I decided to streamline to the end. Beat Bowser with 74 stars.

Im gonna go back and get them all before I check out World S, but so far I dont see why some people prefer this to Galaxy 1. It really is just an expansion pack with largely inferior levels, and most of the Yoshi stuff is inferior to straight Mario stuff.

Galaxy 2 is the best Mario game. The level design is fantastic.

I really feel like a lot of the lips and edges of platforms are really poorly done. The platforming around places where there are lots of small things to run into just doesnt feel good.

The powerup stuff is really good though.

Maybe it just feels that way compared to Odyssey though, where everything except a couple captures feels smooth as butter.

I certainly cant think of any non-Mario 3D Platformer better than Galaxy 2 so far, but Id definitely put it behind Odyssey, 64, and Galaxy 1.

The rest of 100%ing the game decides the race between it and Sunshine. Sunshine was more fun to beat, but 100%ing it was a pain. Fuck the Blue Coin system.

Most of Sunshines levels are mediocre

But platforming with FLUDD was my favorite actual platforming gameplay in the series for me until Cappy came along

The best platforming in Sunshine is when you have no access to FLUDD though.

Galaxy 2 even used those levels!

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the best Mario game, and I'm glad everyone agrees.

I'm currently replaying Cpt. Toad on the Switch despite 100%ing on the Wii U, and it's every bit as excellent as before. Definitely recommended, though it's pretty short overall.

I don't enjoy just roaming around in Sunshine. The areas are generally too big and there are too many places in each world where you can fall from a great distance and have to make your way all the way back up.

Another thought: Galaxy 2 discourages exploration in a sloppy way

In Odyssey, 90% of the time, if you can make it to an out of the way point, youre rewarded, and almost never does the game put its foot down and block you from going somewhere it looks like you should be able to get to.

Galaxy 2 feels opposite. I see tough places I want to try to get to, but theres almost never a reward there AND they usually end up blocking you by invisible wall, which is frustrating.

Granted, most levels are meant to be linear, so this is just my bugaboo because I prefer a sandbox.

Okay, these Green Stars are legit fun

I got all 120 normal stars, beat Bowser again, and have cleared World 1 of all Green Stars

This seems different than how Galaxy 1 did its Luigi stars, but I dont exactly recall it. Wasnt it just go through the whole game again as Luigi? If so, this is WAY better

Yeah, playing as Luigi was no different from playing as Mario in Galaxy 1.

It doesnt SEEM like you need Luigi for each and every one of these, but you do need him for some, so Im just sticking with him for now
