Usually stuff like that is ignored and chalked up to "it's a videogame" so that you can have something to guide you where you can go, but that was unexpected. I know, but the game itself contradicts him and/or supports my sizeshifting theory. True,they're all dead save for the World Serpent but all the Giants we see were huge. And even those murals you could come across, they were bigger than the other creatures. As mimir states, myth is often romanticised, atreus says giants are just a race, which is why the giant's mines were made for human sized use. Thamur was indeed gigantic and mimir states as such when talking about the Thamur shrine. The mom/Kratos's wife marked those areas beforehand because she was a Giant who could foresee future events.
