Or is it one of those things where unless you were watching it with everyone as it was airing you've mostly missed the magic of the community and the show, left to its own devices, isn't worth watching without people to talk to about it?

Nah, its still worth watching.

It does go downhill starting in the second half a bit though, but the latest season had a few scenes that were so awesome it was worth goimg through the dumbed down plot.

Edit: I would totes do an online CE watch if we could. Like so a live chat and everyone hits play at once.

The community sucks and doesn't add to it, unlike Lost for example. You should be fine watching it. Most of us who read the books or discuss the show online think it went downhill starting in season 5. But most people who don't read up the show tend to not see a decline in quality. I think it's gotten dumb as hell, but if you binge the show you'll probably enjoy it all.

The books are better, dont bother watching. Dont bother watching anything thats based on a book, experience the superior version.
