Rogue? Does the game make a point of making distinctions, or is that just the commonly accepted term?

I'm assuming you mean the negative Rep possibility actions

After the first demo, they released a video explaining changes they made based on feedback. They mentioned that there were two types of actions, Noble and Rogue.

Noble <----> Rogue
Challenge <----> Provoke
Guide <----> Allure
Purchase <----> Steal
Inquire <----> Scrutinize

So I have Haanit, Therion, Primrose, and Cyrus.

Finally finished everyone's Ch1, finished with Cyrus. My friend talked up how much he liked him, and he seems to be a favorite, but I found his character....fucking boring. The story is interesting enough, sure, but this dude gives me some major Gary Stu vibes. Plus he's boring in combat, but I never liked traditional black mages.

Was gonna level everyone equally, but I think I'll bench him for a while.

Cyrus's character kinda rubbed me the wrong way

Princess Therese literally spread a rumor that he was fucking Mary and he just forgave her like it was nothing

Plotwise I'm most interested in Primrose, Tressa, Ophelia and Alfyn but H'annit and Olberic are absolute monsters in combat too

So glad I'm not the only one. Like he acts all moral, forgiving, hit with the ladies, intelligent, fights for free speech. Dude's just perfect, and there's little to his background. Prolly change in his chapters but first impressions.

I'm interested in Prim, Tressa and Alfyn too. Olberic's story was cool too, I just prefer H'aanit in combat. Therion I like as a character, not as engaging but good enough. Think Cyrus is the only one I don't care for.

I think the cave where you get the Dancer secondary job is Danger Level 30.

Jesus bewildering grace has been worse than useless for me tonight

In one turn it poisoned and silenced my entire party and killed one party member that was at full HP

I've yet to even get a 2x boost to xp or jp

dont you need to do everyone's chapter 1 before you start chapter 2? and so on for future chapters? or is the idea that if you grind enough, you can continue with say, Olberic's later chapters without doing all the chapters for the other characters at the same time?

The second one. You can do them as you please.

hmmm....does the game intend for you to do all chapter 1s, then all chapter 2s, then etc? i assume so based on the large difficulty spike when trying to go beyond the first layer on the map

That's the easiest method it seems but it also seems possible to solo one characters story if you put the time in.

Yeah, it's definitely geared towards that kind of progression. Levels scale a bit, but missing 4 starting areas, you'd be behind

So wait. You can't switch out the first character you picked? I have 5 players for the first time and I wanted to switch out Haanit for Cyrus but the game wont let me.

I meant you can't swap your main until their story is complete

So, holy shit, I just cheesed my early game. Was randomly exploring looking for dungeons to grind, went to the lv17 field before Goldshore (with the Warrior shrine). Got in a random encounter and wound up max boosting Prim's random effect dance. Got x100 xp boost and instantly shot up to 30-31.

Jesus fuck.

I feel like sometimes there are too many random fights.

But I mostly like the game.

Tressa's chapter 3 was my favorite scene yet. Leon is easily my favorite npc.

No, he is answering your question. To switch out your first character, you have to finish their personal story. Then you can swap them out.

I haven't equipped that one yet because I feel like I need to be getting in as many battles as I possibly can.

Without it, though, the encounter rate sometimes hits FF6 territory with the "centimeter battle" - as I've dubbed it in the past. >_>
I've forgotten which way I'm walking a few times, though, it's not as bad as FF6.

I feel you. Also, another thing the game doesn't really tell you, but I've found to be true is walking gets you less encounters than running. Like you can get twice the distance walking without a battle than you would running. Just takes longer. A solid tip to remember when raiding high level areas for chests

I noticed the map turns red when you run, so I definitely suspected that. Good to hear that's true!!

The encounter rate passive is a God send. I only turn it off during story quests in order to keep people leveled evenly or if I'm looking for a grind or for some cait action.

Grandport kind of breaks the game if you hit it early enough, lmao. Holy shit, top tier weapons, armor, and accessories at 80+% steal rates once you inquire and get the boost.

what a fucking awesome game. 6.5 hours in. i killed one of those random Cait things and got like 1000 XP afterwards lol. shame I didn't land Primrose's dance that boosts your XP lol.

if i could come up with a complaint, it'd be that the characters don't really seem to interact with one another, and by the time you get through everyone's first chapter the way the game intends for you to do you lose some of the momentum of the stories. Therion and Olberic and Primose have some badass stories so far, for example, but I had to do Alfyn's story and now I'm going around the map to get through the other chapter 1 characters as well before resuming my party's stories in chapter 2 scenarios

Great thing about this game is that you can truly explore however you want. There are no "gates" blocking progress other than the bad dudes that fuck you up.

So if you can go into a higher level cave and survive a few rounds to beef up, that's entirely a legit strategy.

I'm waaay behind everyone, but I finally completed the loop today and got all 8 party members. I'm exploring caves off the main loop, leveling up a bit before moving on to the Chapter 2s. My only complaint is that they lock in your initial party member... I'm finding that it's really hampering my ability to experiment.

Finished all Chapter 2s. My main party ranges from level 36-40. I'll probably spend a few hours finishing up side quests and doing optional dungeons before I do Chapter 3s.

I kind of like spending 1 hour or more stealing, scrutinizing, and provoking people in every new town I go to. It's fun.

I do the same. I only provoke people in front of doors, though. I love going through towns.

Yeah, the towns in this game are pretty good. Props the the development team for that.

I'm playing the game relatively slowly. I have 4h in the game, with H'annit, Therion, and Ophellia in my party. I'm loving almost everything about the game, but the depth of field makes navigating a bit tricky at times when you're looking for the way through an area. Also, the bloom in this game can fuck off. Other than that, I love it so far.
