Yeah I don't think you guys are understanding what I meant by taking away the RPG elements.

No EXP/LVL up
No Item drops
No Gold
No Equipment what so ever
No MP gauge
No Store

I mean the game would have to be made incredibly shorter as the combat would get old fast, and half the fun in SoTN is just getting to new areas and destroying the enemies with your new weapons.

But the game is very atmospheric and the bosses have some entertaining gimmicks. Would that help?

Thats odd. Ammo isnt an rpg element. Hearts health and gold are a Vania staple. But if you are arbitrarily removing hearts then I guess it would still be a good game, just with slightly more boring combat?

Cutting out the RPG elements, taking the Saturn version, and making all the playable characters swappable during play would turn it into basically a high def version of that Bloodstained game

But Super Metroid had different beams and suits which would be the equivalent of weapon drops and armor in SotN.

I seem to recall Shield Rod and several shields as things that are just laying around in rooms, waiting to be collected, just like Super Metroid.

SM have like 4 different type of beams. So in SotN you'll get to use a whip, sword, axe and something else. Limited equipment as I stated before and nothing like variable to a real actual RPG.

You can turn equipment off and on pretty much at will, which only really differs in scope and (visible) numbers from typical RPG equipment.

The game would still have to be way shorter in order to keep things from becoming stale.

Probably no Inverted Castle.

Either that, or the enemies would have to be incredibly varied, encouraging constant different weapon use.

There's a serviceable amount.
You've got five available guns instead of about four dozen, for example.

Huh. Looks like the first available weapon would be Jewel Knuckle, if you know the trick to get it. Otherwise a gladius, right after punching the doppleganger to death.

Presumably, there'd be a 'pity' weapon laying on the floor soon after Death, in a hypotheical dropless SOTN.
