Kansas City Barbecue

These although idk what the BBQ place is. And imho skip SeaWorld. It's a shell of it's former self.

It's somewhat of a tourist trap but go to Old Town. Park on one side and just walk it in the evening. It's so relaxing and nice. Lots of shops and great places to eat. There's a big white building near the Old Town square that's a restaurant called the Continental or Centennial or Cosmopolitan I think (it's something like that). It was delicious. I've always loved going to Old Town since I was a kid.

my credentials - lived in San Diego for 30 years

I'll make one more recommendation. If you're only a couple hours away Ill assume you know good Mexican food

there is a place in barrio logan off of cesar chavez road called las cuatros milpas

go there and get the rice/beans/chorizo

and those tortillas

oh those tortillas....

also the museums mentioned above are cool. All located in Balboa Park near downtown

Breweries everywhere

These. Downtown as a whole is usually lively during SDCC. If you mean right around the area of the convention center I know a ton of people who go down but not in. There's a lot of people who just go to cosplay outside or hang around.

There's quite a bit to do. Def stop in to a few restaurants/breweries.

What are you interested in doing? Depending where you're coming from the beaches would be a nice atmosphere too. I suggest OB personally, PB if you wanna just drink and party.

SDCC is in downtown and is practically next to the gaslamp district where all the bars, clubs, restaurants etc. are. But yeah other than that I recommend SD Zoo (not the Safari park to not get the two confused) and Balboa Park if you're into museums.

And of course get Mexican food. El Taco Gordo is prolly our most famous place but also check out Lucha Libre or Lolita's

I stop at Lucha Libre every time I'm in San Diego.

Also breweries everywhere.

Side note: I don't eat BBQ, but my BBQ eating friends say that Kansas City Barbecue is a terrible misnomer and is a pale comparison to actual Kansas City Barbecue.

I mean yeah. But I wouldn't be surprised if rates were up and yeah. Chances are you won't be able to find a place in downtown unless it's terrible

La Jolla is prob about 15-20 minutes from DT. It's a pretty good location and that price for it is pretty solid. It has a beach there too but the scene isn't my favorite aside from Wind and Sea. All depends on the person though. La Jolla would be a good find though if you PM that poster and actually set it up.
