And the already very basic plot suffers for it.

But the in battle art and effects are pretty cool. Even though the games are so damn easy that the decent amount of depth of the games combat doesnt need to be explored at all.

Nah characters aside the plot isn't bad. And the graphics and music are the absolute best of any gba game. I would play it for that alone.

I'll use Mia as a prime example. She literally adds nothing at all to the plot and only exists so you can progress through Mercury. After that shes just your designated heal bot/female party member. Other than that what remarkable or standout personality/character trait does she have? A relation to Alex? Her entire relation to the plot is through the existence of another character. Shes basically nothing.

Kraden's paroxysms were pretty enjoyable (mostly in GS2), but otherwise, many characters kinda sucked. Dialogue, too. The rest of the dungeons and battling made up for it...mostly.

what i found most hilarious is how in the second game, felix becomes a silent protagonist because he's the main playable character and isaac suddenly talks for some reason and it's just so stupid

i really don't know why people want this series to return, it shined because it was a technical marvel at the time for a GBA game, other than that it's basically babby's first RPG

Golden Sun is an RPG that has everything I want in an RPG. Great graphics, lots of secrets and side quests, lots of different classes, puzzles, super powerful summon moves... I think the puzzles of Golden Sun and the music are what really shine.

Looking back... I agree. There really isnt much to say about most characters. The thing that bugs me most about golden sun is how the dialogue makes replays a bit of a chore.

The plot is good enough, the battle system is interesting and the music is great but its hard to be invested in the characters and their relevance to whats going on.

the effort put in to have puzzles in dungeons is the one thing I really like about Golden Sun, that and the artwork

In terms of writing and characters, yeah. The dungeons tend to be interesting(though you do get some clunkers like Air Rock, of course) and the graphics and soundtrack are really good. Still not sure how they managed that with the GBA, of all things.

Im at work so can't go on a big tangent but another problem is that characters are INCREDIBLY stupid for the sake of the plot. Which might be okay if the game wasnt constantly talking about how "wise"(Kraden) or cunning (Saturos/Alex) they are.

It's a Camelot thing. They did the same thing in Shining Force III - whoever's scenario you're playing becomes a silent protagonist.

The one saving grace it does have writing wise is that its not a character driven story. So its extremely easy to overlook or not care about the fact that the characters are practically a bunch of nothing....IF youre willing to turn a blind eye to shit like that. Which Im not. And Im not, because in a story that goes on for so long while having nothing really important happen until you get to the plot critical spots, it would have been nice to have some of that filler time expand on the characters themselves, but none of that happened.

The closest we get to a party member having any distinct personality traits is Jenna (IMO) in TLA. But it kind of gets tossed aside immediately after the prologue of the second game...

It was before the end of the GBA life cycle for that matter. Heck, look at the graphics of Kingdom Hearts CoM, for that matter. The functionality and graphics only had 2-3 peers right up til the very end of games being published (officially) for it.

Same deal with FFXII for the ps2 having great graphics and some of the best for the console... The the west. Japan had some fantastic games that released in 2009 that blow it away.

Like, literally everything in this plot happens because people failed basic common sense. It just feels so forced. @_@

This art though, when I was younger I couldn't appreciate it as much. But holy fuck they put in so much detail into every little battle background, I love it.

The rest is pretty forgettable, the dialogue is laughable, cliche plot and one dimensional characters.

The best part is the even the DS game ends on a cliffhanger because they thought the series would keep going so the story never gets a resolution.

But yeah no one in the entire series has a lick of personality
