The Hawks have pledged to release Anthony once the trade is complete, according to the people. That will allow him to earn $27.9 million salary next season as stipulated by the original five-year contract he signed with the Knicks in the summer of 2014 and then sign with Houston upon clearing waivers. He is expected to receive a one-year deal from the Rockets at the leagues veteran minimum salary of $2.4 million.

The Rockets had their only chance at winning the championship last season.

Melo is bad, but is only a minimum deal.
They lost Ariza and Luc, they have no wing defenders now.
CP3 will be making like 40mils at the age of 37.
They still didn't get rid of that Anderson contract.
Capela rejected their offer and will probably leave in 2019.

Path to mediocrity is ensured in near future. This and maybe the next season they will still have a chance of conference finals, but that's about it.

I have to believe if Paul were available they would have won game 7. They missed 27 3's in a row and only lost by 5. Surely he could have made 3 layups. But woulda coulda shoulda.

yeah you've got to think that during that "jack up a drought of 3's" spell, paul would've stepped in and not really turned the ball over and gotten some points in the paint without even passing it to anyone else and kept things alive...basically what he did the previous two games
it was pretty painful and could go down as an all-time nba what-if

I actually enjoyed it because I really dislike the Rockets, D'Antoni, Harden and Paul.
Even more than the Warriors.

Their games are difficult to watch.
High pick-n-roll, harden iso, paul iso and randomly chucking up the threes are the only plays.

Of course that a terrible shooting night was bound to happen.

i disagree with the notion that their games are difficult to watch
they often have mad swings in point differential and big comebacks one way or another
maybe we need to define "difficult" because i'm taking it to mean "boring"
i do agree that they only have a handful of plays, though it didn't seem to much matter as they had the best offense in the regular season

Difficult to watch as in there's no ball movement and it often turns into a 3pt chucking contest.
They basically rely on their role-shooters to have decent shooting nights, which can't happen all the time.
When someone flames out like Ariza did in g7, they have no backup plan.

For example, even though they're obviously the weaker team I really enjoyed watching Jazz and Celtics this season.
Synder and Stevens did an amazing job with limited personnel and have shown that even average players can be great if you know how to utilize them well.

i mean, yeah, the offense is completely predicated on shooting 3's
it doesn't "turn into" that per se, they want that from the jump
i can see why that wouldn't be for everyone though
