I posted this in another topic. There are many ways it can be expanded on so if anyone has any suggestions let me know:

Maybe I'm giving him more credit than he deserves here, but I really feel like Trump is doing some really skilled (read: shitty for the entire American public) political maneuvering here.

First he set up Mueller by telling him to release the indictment of the 12 Russians right before the Helsinki meeting. Who gets the credit for the timing there? Mueller. Who do all the conservatives blame for trying to "screw up" Trump's meeting with Putin? Mueller. Who ordered the timing of the indictment? Trump.

Next, he's setting up the intelligence community and the Democrats by trying to claim that the Russians are going to help them win. If the Democrats don't win, then it means the intel community did a great job and that was all because of Trump's leadership. If the Democrats do win, then it's because the intel community did a shitty job/is working with the Democrats, despite Trump's leadership.

And then if the Democrats do win he can initiate sanctions against Russia and say "Look at how harsh I'm being on them, no one's ever been tougher against Russia than me".

The most frustrating part of all of this is that no one gives a shit about the truth and everyone views all this shit as annoying individual vignettes instead of looking at the feature length narrative. No one has the time, patience, or ability to parse through actual information to actually see the truth. They don't give a shit about that. Trump said something on Tuesday? That's already in the past. What he says now is what matters.
