Tuna = Salmon (both have their place)

Spicy salmon > Spicy Tuna (when done right. Spicy mush tastes the same no matter the fish)

Rosy Sea bass = Chad fish

Nigiri > Sashimi > Baskets > Rolls > everything else. Some rolls are too good to pass up, even with a great nigiri selection to be had.

Red Soy sauce >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Green Soy Sauce

Extra Wasabi is for nerds, ginger is okay. Wasabi belongs as a dab in your nigiri, not mushed into your soy sauce. Plebs.

Yellow ginger > pink ginger

Eel > tuna > escolar > Octopus > salmon > yellowtail in terms of ease to eat as a newcomer.

Salmon roe baskets are the devil

Quail egg baskets are, not quite the devil. I didnt literally die when I tried it, but it wasnt easy to eat for sure. Tho id have to try it with a drop of soy sauce like the chef told me to at the time. Hmmmmm.

Uni is hit or miss. Sometimes its great other times its the devil. Still havent picked up on why aside from may be not fresh?

Tuna nigiri that had some lemon rubbed on it = based god item

Pieces prepared alive (like shrimp, clam, or uni, the three ive had done this way) are a complicated delight. On one hand, incredibly tasty. On the other, kinda questionable morally. But on a third hand, fascinating to experience. So, i say yes to this.

We all have a fav AYCE style place that does sushi. Is it kinda crap fish? Yeah. Is it almost always the same kind of selection? Yeah. Almost all western style rolls? Yeah. Is the eel sauce in a big damb tub on the bar? Damn right. And damn if it aint a good value at 12 a meal all day long. (Theres actually 3 like this around me. 1 is just sushi, the other 2 are hybrid chinese buffets glorious eats)

We also all have a fav "good" sushi place. The kinda place we can rack up a crazy bill fast at yet leave happy cause you got your dollars worth and then some.

Sitting at the bar >>>>>>>>>>>>>> anywhere else.

Buying the chef a round of sake means your old school, which means i like you, and the sushi chef friend that got me into sushi also would have liked you.

one of the biggest scams ever. over priced and they don't even bother to cook it.

cali rolls with ranch dip is top tier. fried chicken and avocado is pretty legit too.
