Cliffhanger I think. I was less than 10. and the opening scene is kinda disturbing

a person falls out of someone's arms to their death like 10 thousand feet in a canyon

I remember thinking that people in that movie literally died and that the actors gave their lives for the movie. so I was pretty young still. if I thought that, I probably should not have been watching a movie with death in it

My mom was tyrannical about stopping me from watching anything with sex or anything scary, but for some reason she didn't have any problem with swearing and violence. As a kid I watched Speed, Die Hard, Terminator, etc. Scary was even negotiable if it was sci-fi, like in Alien or non-supernatural like Jaws.

I feel like a lot of parents are that way. Anything with sex and nudity it's, "OH WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN" but then those same people turn a blind eye to extreme violence and gore.

Yeah, definitely. It's a bit weird, since people are more likely to encounter sex in their life than violence.

I used to be terrified of the X-Files as a kid. My dad used to watch it and I would sometimes watch a bit. I remember the intro creeping me the fuck out.

So what movie did he drag me along to in theaters when I was like 8? The X-Files movie of course.

I remember some black ink that would infect people and impregnate them with aliens, and these terrifying (to me at the time) vicious "grey" aliens with huge claws would burst out. I remember a part with a scientist falling in a pit with one and getting mauled.

Anyway I couldn't sleep for like a week.

As an adult I love horror/gore/creepy stuff and would definitely probably be into the X-Files if it aired while I was an adult, but as a kid horror used to scare me too much.

The kitchen scene in Jurassic Park scared me when I was 4.

I say Goldeneye in theaters too, when I would have been 6. I remember basically nothing about that one but I know Bond gets a little questionable with its content in some of them.

I saw Hellraiser 3 when I was about 8.
The chain scene where the girl gets sucked into the statue lingered with me for a bit.

My parents were always pretty lax about movies I watched. I watched jurassic park at 6, true lies at 7, and showgirls at 8. Those are just the notable ones I remember.

I was exposed to a few rated R films as a kid. The action movies didn't bother me. My dad wasn't into horror. There are two I vaguely recall but don't know the names.

The first involved a guy that...well he was just killing people for fun? No clue. I think he went into home of an elderly or blind man and had the guy slowly plunge a large carving knife into himself. Then he went to a room where a couple was making out. The girl was tied or handcuffed to the bed and blindfolded, and the boyfriend went to get something. The guy comes in, gropes her pretending to be the boyfriend, then strangles her to death. In a later scene I think he's in a deli, and the butcher does a swift chop cutting the fingers off one of his hands.

The other I recall a man in all black sneaking in a house. I believe he shoots the guard dogs, then goes inside and starts rummaging through a closet in a bedroom. A girl in behind is sleeping. She slowly wakes up, eyes closed, yawn, stretch. He turns and shoots her before she realizes he's there. I believe the girl's father walks in some time shortly after and fights the killer, but winds up shot as well, and the guy flees.

Wish I knew what these movies were....
