First few chapters: Kills anything that moves, Rapier makes him critical damn near everything.

After the Rapier breaks: Becomes worthless until chapter 7 when they give him another one and he starts killing again.

After second rapier breaks: Useless again until promotion.

After promotion: Most OP character in series history, except maybe Fae, one shots final boss because he feels like it.

So glad they fixed the rapier archetype with Eliwood and Erika in later games, what a mess.

Roy is trash.

Yeah, he's OP after he promotes. Whoop-de-do, the game is basically over.

Other lords like Ike and Hector can solo the game from the start, or aren't useless for most of it.

Ike can soundly solo the game even on hard, and once he promotes its laughable how much he wrecks

he also has a great unique weapon in ragnell since it's unbreakable and also hits ranged

The difference is PoR is a much easier game. Bonus exp, better characters, blah blah.

Roy is all over the place in a game that, until you get a bunch of broken late game characters, is full of worthless borderline unusable units.

Roy is garbage. Bad movement. Poor stat and susceptible to being rng screwed due to middling stat rolls. Late promotion and ultra weapon has 25 uses. He is a middling lord.

I saved my weapon repair staffs, so that really helped with the uses, >.<

You almost need it because only him and Fae are of any use against the final boss. Even Lillina who goes through the game destroying everything is worthless against Idunn

Most bosses are ridiculously easy in any fire emblem game, so him crushing them isn't new nor impressive. Also, his party members likely crush him in stats by this point.

If he promoted at a reasonable time, Roy would actually be decent, even good.
Unfortunately, he gets screwed waaay harder than Eliwood/Hector do in their respective modes in 7.

Also, looking back, how god damn confusing was the end of 7 for NA players who didn't even know 6 was a thing until after Melee lmao?

The ending foreshadows a bunch of characters, that as far as a NA tweener was concerned at the time, never did anything of relevance.

But nope, one game back lol.

Tbh I did a second run where I never used Roy except to avoid having him soak any exp, and had an easier time. Only being useful with one weapon prior to the final level or two at which point you already have top tier units who benefit from the exp more? Yeah, he basically plays second chair to somebody else in his own game.

He's considered the worst or second worst lord for those reasons.

There are some units that can break 50 defense. As long as she doesn't move, then it is not that hard to best her.

Roy just kind of sucks, even after promotion. He gets a cool weapon, but his stats will be ass since he's too ass earlier in the game to actually gain levels without being fed kills non-stop, which also slows you down like crazy since 6 is full of huge maps and every objective is seize

He's on the opposite end of Lords who could solo their respective games like Ike and Hector.

Javelins and a horse are always good. He gets more screwed by having crappy stat caps. 24 speed, same as Generals and Hector? Blech. And they decided to copy/paste the same stats to Ephraim.

Then again, FE7's enemies are pretty slow but it's still a shame to see him so weighed down by his legendary weapon. It's only for a single chapter, but still.

I'd say Eliwood/Lyn/Hector trio wasn't like chosen by fate or something crazy. They more or less accumulated power throughout the series against a bad guy that constantly bested them over and over.
