Parents are taking their children to Fortnite coaches to improve their chances of securing a Battle Royale win, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Parents are paying up to $20 per hour to help their kids improve their skills in Fortnite, Epic Games phenomenally successful free-to-play Battle Royale game.

Fortnite which is out on iPhone, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One encompasses a Hunger Games-like battle which pitches 100 players against each other, either alone or in small teams. The team or player that survives until the end wins the match.

According to those parents, some children are feeling pressure not just to play with their friends, but also succeed.

Theres pressure not to just play it but to be really good at it, said Ally Hicks, who bought four hours of lessons for her 10-year-old son. You can imagine what that was like for him at school.

Nick Mennen, whos been paying coaches to tutor his son, Noble, said the 12-year-olds gone from struggling in the game to throw[ing] down 10 to 20 wins.

Fortnite is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a handful of additional Birthday Challenges, and recently delivered a new patch.

Lol. I started playing it recently on the Switch and it's ok. Not bad or great. A good time waster but that's about it. I can't imagine taking it seriously let alone paying money for it (Even on outfits. Fuck that shit)

To be fair coaches really do help alot in games, and if they can have alot more fun after the sessions and play better/win more, more power to them

They're doing this so they have a better chance to get scholarships for college.
You know, since ESports are becoming a thing now, with some schools building competitive teams already.

The Overwatch tournament on ESPN and TV only helps.

Then again, experience gained from a 20$ an hour tutor pales in comparison to 24/7 dedicated training in a facility sponsored by a billion dollar company.

While many universities play catch-up, outside organizations are stepping in to help college players build esports programs at their schools. For instance, Find Your Grind and ReKTGlobal this week announced a $450,000 annual scholarship fund for students interested in esports. Tespa, Blizzard's collegiate-esports initiative that helps organize student esports groups and tournaments -- including the Fiesta Bowl championships -- has 220 chapters in schools across North America.
