I'm biased since I'm from Austin and love the city. But in the end, it truly depends on your hobbies and what you like.

Austin = more techy, more (fun) weird people, incredible landscape and scenery, endless amounts of swimming holes, amazing music, friendly people

Houston = more oil and gas industry, tons of art museums, probably better food scene than Austin but Austin has amazing food too, more rich people, way more culturally diverse.

Austin is fun-loving and easy going. Houston is kind of serious business but way more diverse.

My degree is in the business field and I am probably going to move without a job. Will I go homeless in Austin?

Both cities have a great job market. You can find a job really fast. I wouldn't worry about that.

What industry do you want to be in?
Is cultural diversity important to you?
Do you value live music a lot?

Yes, I'll definitely need a mid-level business professional job to maintain my standard of living. In addition, I also want to start getting in to start-ups and stuff later down the road.

Yes, I am a liberal and I am sick and tired of living in Trump land.

I live in Nashville, and I do not honestly care about the music scene here because it is country.

I think there are aspects of Houston you will love and aspects of Austin you will love.

I'm going to ask a sort of sensitive question - what is your race and is it important for you to be able to find other people in your race to make new friends?

I am black skin color wise, but my personality and culture definitely reflects white. Dating wise, I have only been with white women lol.

Austin is a much smaller city but has certain aspects that might make it more appealing to you. It's much better for outdoors activities, is nicer looking and has a more varied terrain in the surrounding areas, and having UT smack dab in the middle of the city it might be a more friendly place for a younger person, assuming that's what you are.
If you don't care about any of that stuff, as I said before, Houston is a much bigger city so you'll have all the stores/restaurants/entertainment venues you could ever want there. It's also not that far from the beach (depending where in houston you live in) if that's important to you. I really can't emphasize enough how big houston is, I lived there for the majority of my life but there are huge portions of the city I've rarely been to. Any idea where in the houston area you're thinking of moving to?

Well, either city would work for you. Houston has a larger black population (due to more diversity). Austin is heavily white and Hispanic.

Houston also has a large Asian population, if that matters. The Asian cuisine and markets are second-to-none.

Um, I do love Asian food :/

I live in Houston. Austin is the better city.

Especially if you say you're liberal and sick of Trump land. While it is true that technically Houston is a liberal city, to me it very much still feels conservative unless you're in very specific parts of the city. It just feels conservative to me, but maybe that's because the large neighboring suburb areas have a large influence on me, and they are totally conservative.

To me, people in Austin are friendlier, it's a prettier more interesting town, it's smaller and while traffic is still horrendous, distances are just shorter to travel. Houston traffic is a special kind of hell. Both are hot but Austin is drier, Houston is like a swamp.

Only reason I live in Houston is because of my good job. If I could move to Austin with this same job then I totally would.

I can't disagree with what you are saying.

Though, Austin traffic might be worse. The volume is larger in Houston but Austin fucked up with the road system and now we have to live with it.

Some people argue that, and sometimes I would agree, but honestly, even when traffic is really bad in Austin, it's still not as stressful. Most of the big roads are quaint three lane highways it seems like, and while that very fact is no doubt the cause of traffic issues, it's psychologically less demanding. Houston has massive, record breaking highways in size, and the way people drive, it's so incredibly aggressive. It's a strange combination of heavy traffic and aggressive, fast moving cars in a massive piece of road, it just feels so much more stressful to me. Austin wait times can be just as harsh, but it feels more relaxed to me.

I think it was just an average idiot.

My wife thinks that if you cause a wreck on I35 you should have to be put in the stocks on the side of the road and let people cuss you out as the slowly drive by in the traffic jam.

No fines or tickets, you just have to endure the social lashing.

Traffic blows for sure, but I'll take the city as a whole, the lower crime, the Alamo Drafthouses, the food, the music, the outdoors, and the fitness culture in ATX as a trade off.

I agree though, idiots who cause wrecks and rubberneckers should be spat on by all passing motorists.
