PHILADELPHIA (AP) Authorities say a 2-year-old boy was attacked and killed by pit bulls inside a home.

The attack occurred early Wednesday evening in a two-story row house in Philadelphias Port Richmond section.

Police say responding officers could see the child being attacked through the front door and fired shots at the dogs, killing one animal and wounding two others.

Three other people were in the house at the time but werent injured.

Police say there were five dogs in the home at the time. It wasnt known if all the dogs participated in the attack.

The incident was being reviewed to determine if charges would be filed against the homes residents.

The problem with pit bulls isn't that they're "naturally aggressive" but that they attract the wrong kind of people.

They're very strong and agile, so you have idiots who beat and mistreat the dogs. To make them "effective guard dogs". There's also just a lot of ignorant people who don't know how to rear them and dogs in general (doesn't socialize them properly, etc.)

I currently own two pit bulls and one pit lab mix and they're actually really great around kids and other dogs. I grew up around these dogs as well and I've been exposed to many, many pitbulls. None of them were exceptionally more aggressive compared to other dogs.

Pit Bulls are already subjected to lives of beatings, torture, and malnourishment only to eventually die an awful death in a fighting cage.

Think about how sad it is that this baby was torn to shreds by Pit Bulls. That happens to dogs every day and it makes me sick.

It's stupid to blame a breed of dogs that has been subjected to such heinous acts by evil people. It's not the dogs fault they are naturally aggressive.

Either way, both mine are chill but i know not to bring them to the dog park. They're big babies and I've never met an aggressive one. I know they exist tho.

I'm not a animal person and I especially dont like dogs. This is a damn shame those things should be put down.

I've been bitten by poorly trained and socialized pits. I had one maul my back, shoulders, and back of my neck when I was about 7 or 8.
Every single pit that has bitten me, had terrible negligent owners.
The ones I've trained, no issues. Hell I had one bite me by accident (reaching for a toy), and she whined and stayed submissive for weeks because of how bad she felt.
