I liked that I was able to rearrange the back button and recent apps. So that the back button was on the left and recent apps on the right.

Same. I think it's old enough that they don't bother with all the updates that make it obsolete bullshit. My phone runs better than the one my wife got two years ago.

Galaxy S8+. Might consider a Note whenever I do decide to upgrade.

Easily the best phone I've ever had after 10 years of iPhones.

Nah, they still update the 5S(including an update to iOS 12 in a month-ish). It was just crazy overkill for running iOS in 2013(and on such a low-res screen) and all that "headroom" has allowed it to age much more gracefully than some of the phones that came after it

My S9 is the first Samsung phone I've ever had. So far I like the UI, but maybe just because it's different.

I just laugh at the persistent Samsung Experience UI whining. Far more capable and feature laden than stock Android (whatever that is). Multi-window multitasking, Dual Messenger apps, edge panels, performance modes, max power saving mode, more robust app sorting and Always on Display, etc.

In fact, stock Android has recently incorporated much of what Samsung had on their phones for years. I learned recently that you actually can't remove the weather widget and Google search bar on the home screen of Pixel phones. Is that true?

That's so...Apple.
