As for the studios most popular series, Dishonored, it seems like it might be a while before we see another, if we do at all. With Arkanes assassination series, the story came to a natural conclusion with the last release, Death of the Outsider.

I cant say definitively what might happen down the road, anything could happen, but [Dishonored] is resting for now, Bare tells me. As far as pure immersive sims go, I dont know if were going to continue to make like carbon copy this qualifies as an immersive sim and its the only thing were ever going to make.

The things that are important to us as a studio are coherent, deep world building and environmental storytelling were always going to craft spaces that you feel like youre visiting, whether its Dunwall or Talos 1. Its just as important a character as the player or the people you meet. Then its improvisational gameplay giving players a bunch of cool abilities and tools, then saying, You figure it out, you be creative, you own the experience. And, typically, we stick to first-person, though thats not a hard rule and we might try other things from time to time.

Bunking in with Deus Ex no doubt. At least Arkane isn't leaving the genre although it seems like their next game will be multiplayer.

I hope Hitman 2 sells well otherwise this genre is basically dead.

Sucks, I really like the series and the only thing I have left to play is Death of the Outsider.

I hope they at least replace it with something similar.

Hopefully they won't take too long to bring Dishonored stuff back. It almost feels like the same problem the Witcher's having, where the saga that drew everyone in and got them invested...is now ending and they have to decide where to go next.

I think it underperformed, yeah. It was still great in many ways -- the 4th and 7th missions are some of the best in this generation -- but it didn't have the same atmosphere as the first game.

Hitman 2 is looking so fucking good too. They keep showing off the new levels. It's insane. Miami, with a racecar track, formula one style. People love it because you can kill people as the stig from top gear lol

It is fucking pre school tier design lesson to not punish the player for playing the game. It's a videogame about killing people where 90% of abilities are lethal and the game sabotages your satisfaction upon completion because you played with the abilities it offered you. Whoever thought that up doesn't belong in game development

It's only about killing people if you want it to be about killing people.

Immersive sims are all about having options. It's up to you if you want to use them.

You can still kill plenty of people and get the good ending btw

I always saw the chaos system as the game adjusting its difficulty according to the way you played. I figured stealth was more difficult than straight murder hobo, so the game compensated the easier time the hobo had with more enemies.

You want a good stealth game with powers that are inspired, rewarding and the game doesn't hate you forever for daring to use them? Play Styx. 50x the game dishonored ever was. Freaking stealth game where you can't beat down a horde of megazords with a supersoaker and a twizzlers.

What punishment is there? Who actually cares what ending you get? Killing people is fun, so I'm going to kill people. I couldn't give any less of a fuck what ending I get. And I say this as someone who cares about Dishonored's story. People who bring the ending garbage up act like it completely invalidates the gameplay, which is the actual most important aspect of the game.

By the way Dishonored 2 actually does give the player more options to play without killing people. A lot more. I agree that the lack of non-lethal options is a big flaw of the first game. Playing non-lethally in the sequel is much more fun.

Dishonored had a laundry list of faults and I'd rather they leave it and do something new rather than keep milking a dead cow

I'd take 2 decent flawed games over 5 bad ones

You say that like it's a bad thing. The plot surrounding Corvo, Emily, and friends is definitely finished. But the universe is interesting enough to continue on at some point. If it's 5-10 years from now, that's okay. But I would be disappointed if the franchise was permanently shelved.

They're comparable because all of the big immersive sim games from the last few years haven't sold very well. Which is the main reason we're seeing developers move away from them. Hitman and Prey are also other examples.
