19. Locke Cole

FFVI, with such a large cast, was inevitably gonna produce a bunch of characters for me to enjoy. And honestly? I feel like, even if you dislike FFVI, it's hard to come up with a reason to hate Locke. He's a thief (sorry, "treasure hunter"), so you'd THINK he'd be part of the lovable rogue archetype, but he's really not. If anything, Edgar fills that archetype, while Locke is the cool, straight-man dealing with all the bullshit swirling around him. I just like the fact that Locke is this "treasure hunter" that gets thrust into an apocalyptic scenario, and he just rolls with it. He empathizes with Terra and has a bit of a showmance with Celes (although it's a little more one-sided from her to him, but whatever.) He's just a really likable player stand-in, and he serves FFVI well among a bunch of colorful personalities and magic.

Yeah I'm not one of Locke's bigger fans, but it's hard to find much to dislike about him. He'd probably be on most top 25s I'd imagine. He might even be on mine towards the tail end despite not caring much for his subplots.
