I was under the impression that Don calling Peggy with his coke commercial was him giving his final idea and finally retiring from the corporate world. My friend thought it was Don returning to McCann and accepting his loss of power. What actually happened?

It's been years but I remember it as Don retiring, or maybe they left that unanswered. I definitely don't think your friend is right.

Neither, they just ended with a stupid coke commercial. Fucking stupid, and I don't even mind when they give credit to Don for real life events (for example lucky strike's "it's toasted" slogan was a real thing)
