The short version is: he didn't actually assault the woman

https://www.todaytells.com/students-walked-out-after-a-comedian-allegedly-sexually-harassed-a-student-during-a-show-at-purdue-university/

Comedian Andy Gross was performing a stand-up routine at Purdue University that students say involved sexually harassing an audience member.

Several students walked out of an orientation week performance by comedian Andy Gross at Purdue University on Saturday night, protesting a part of the show that they said was lewd and inappropriately targeted a student participant from the audience.

Several students tweeted after the show that the comedian had sexually harassed the student during the act, prompting a response from two of the universitys offices.

Students told BuzzFeed News the comedian was performing as a closing act at the schools Boiler Gold Rush orientation week. At one point during the Saturday show, he picked a student leader out of the crowd to be a volunteer and asked her to stand directly in front of him before making a joke about his genitals, according to students who were in the audience.

He insisted the woman from the crowd keep inching closer and he proceeded to do a voice throwing technique while staring down at his midsection, saying, Let me out of here! insinuating his penis was talking to the girl, Jeff Terpstra, a sophomore who was in the audience, told BuzzFeed News on Sunday.

Terpstra said the performer then made the student stand back to back with him and told her to get closer, like cheek to cheek before instructing her to put her hand on his thigh while he did a card trick.

He then purposely failed the card trick and said, Well, at least I got a free feel-up out of it,' Terpstra said.

In a letter to students on Sunday afternoon, the executive director of Purdues Student Success Programs, Dan Carpenter, apologized for Grosss performance, telling students, I share your outrage at the way he interacted with and spoke to students during his act.

Two other students recounted the same actions to BuzzFeed News. Matthew Bryn, a freshman, added that Gross then made a joke about Matt Lauer, the former NBC host who was fired over accusations of sexual assault and harassment.

Bryn said he was especially disturbed by the routine because there were several events and speeches throughout the week before highlighting Purdues free zone, which encourages treating people with respect and acknowledging their experiences.

Its just ridiculous, especially [after] having free zone speeches all week. Purdue did send out a notice to all the team leaders that said that they in no way supported it, Bryn said. But I feel like they could have done more. They could have shut his mic [off] or pulled him [off] stage but instead they let him keep going.

A spokesperson for the college told BuzzFeed News in a statement on Sunday that Purdue does not condone the comedians routine and will not be working with him again in the future.

Some portions of the performance were clearly inappropriate and contrary to the universitys values of respect and support for all, the statement said. We will not work with this comedian again and are proud of our students who are standing up and voicing their concerns about the performance.

Another freshman, Amanda Bolen, told BuzzFeed News that she doesnt blame the school, and that the student leaders at the event and her resident adviser were apologetic during and after the event.

Im hopeful for this university/generation because of how many people walked out in protest. People realizing this is wrong proves that efforts to spreading awareness about sexual assault are working. Andy is just a pig who is making jokes that were probably funny when he was in college, she said.

Gross did not immediately respond to a request for comment. BuzzFeed News has also reached out to the student participant involved.

Purdues Center for Advocacy, Response, and Education, which is overseen by the schools dean of students, tweeted immediately after the performance and offered counseling and support services to students. The office said it had been received comments about the performance, which was described as [being] harassing and offensive.

Found the video of it and imho it's not a good set. I love when comedians handle these types of topics well, with expert precision, but Andy Gross falls way short here. Nothing against him as a person-- I believe in giving comedians leeway to experiment with their material and explore uncomfortable territory-- but that section of the Purdue performance kind of gave me an "ick" feeling.

It's not enough to just not partake in a show or leave an event they didn't like, they have to make sure that people who might have liked it can't enjoy it either. Is that the kind of busy-body bullshit you want to go to bat for?

Hypothetically, would you be so sympathetic to homophobic students that whined to administrators to get rid of, say, a gay entertainer because they didn't like that he made jokes about being gay? They'd be students of the university and their thoughts would be relevant, no?

No shit.

Not the point we are looking at here, is it though?

Not a lot of headlines lead with "Students found comedy show enjoyable and had a generally pleasant evening." People who did like a show don't typically bitch about it to administrators to keep the comedian from performing there again.

Maybe if you don't personally enjoy a bit of entertainment, you should shut the fuck up and go to another venue instead of getting the shows you don't like shut down.

Would you think it acceptable for anti-gay students to get a comedian telling jokes about being gay kicked out because they found the material inappropriate? Or would you agree that they should shut up and let other people enjoy the show?

If Liberty University hires a gay comedian who is known for telling gay jokes, the comedian accepts and tells flagrantly vulgar jokes in front of the audience and is booed, it's still on the comedian for failing to deliver to their audience.

I'll say it again: the audience is not to blame for a comedian not being funny to them. If other people in the audience liked it and wanted to enjoy his comedy, they're quite free to attend any of his future sets. They just won't be doing so at Purdue.

I'll always have a base level of respect for stand-up comedians to get up in front of live people and put it out there, but if you bomb, you bomb. Any of the old masters will tell you that.

All this topic is is another early morning conCErvative bitch-fest over millenials and SJWs.
