It's the only recent Disney Animation Studios movie that I haven't seen. The art for it is beautiful though:

Yes. Very good, underrated Disney film. That was the last time we got a good Disney villain.

She was fine, but kinda boring tbh. She didn't have the show or spectacle of most other great Disney villains.

She's better than the bull shit "surprise" villains we get in every single movie now, but not one of my favorites.

It's a good movie, but it feels a lot like they were just going down a checklist of stuff that happens in Disney movies and throwing it in.

Yeah it was ok.

The voodoo thing was kinda borderline tbh but it had a lot of fun scenes in it. Nothing to write home about but if you've got some time to kill, give it a watch.

Terrible waste of a movie with good individual parts. Art style? Gorgeous. Villain? Literally voiced by Keith David, the greatest of them all. Literally Goliath from Gargoyles, my childhood.

Protagonist? Rather sympathetic for the most part. This would have been a much better movie if they had just focused on the human portion with tiana struggling to open a restaurant (with of course a few tweaking here and there) while dropping the stupid bayou portion with that fucking firefly that sounds like the hick truck from Pixar's worst series Cars. I mean what even was that.

What a shame, they could have had something really good here

What the hell, mother gothel was literally terrifying what are you even on about. Tangled was great in its own right as well as the references/similar vibes to the Renaissance movies. I was literally getting an ursula vibe from mg due to how scared of her I was.

The firefly was worth it for the crocodile tbh. The part where he plays trumpet was great.

She wasn't terrifying at all imo. I appreciated Rapunzel's emotional struggles with her, but Gothel was a pretty lackluster villain throughout.

And this in addition to my post. Those were essentially the only good songs. Every time I see almost there I think "this, this is what I want for the whole movie."

And Dr facilier is a villain that deserves... more. More than what we got in the movie. I don't know if changing the movie means dropping the frog part out of the title, but honestly would anyone even miss it? It's like the story with the least substance to make a movie out of.

That is just so weird, I don't know what to tell you. Didn't "mother knows best" give you the creeps, that goosebumpy feeling of impending doom? Maybe you weren't taught to fear mothers/step mothers like I was? What are your thoughts on the stepmother from Cinderella, lady tremaine?

OMG I love Mother Gothel. Basically because she's the witch from Into the Woods, but funnier. She's so fun, I kind of don't mind that she's emotionally manipulative and evil.

Fun fact, the voice actress who played Gothel also played the witch in the previously mentioned play.

Now for random slayage.

Unlike most mustache twirling Disney villains who are so outrageous they're kind of insulated by the fantasy, her kind of evil is actually kind of mundane. When you consider that people have actually grown up with these kind of abusive circumstances, and that is a thing that could happen to a child that almost makes it worse. Her abuse of Rapunzel is constant and unceasing and has been going unchecked for years. She wants nothing less than to completely dominate the will of Rapunzel, and use her to maintain her eternal life. She is willfully neglectful because she doesn't really see Rapunzel as her daughter, but as a tool.

I had a really awful relationship with my mother, but by the time I saw Tangled, there wasn't fear anymore, so much as just a general dislike for how she treated me, and I stood up against it.

Lady Tremaine is scarier than Gothel, but still not "scary" imo.

Frollo's by far the most threatening villain IMO.

I'd rather have Tiana stay human and have the movie about her helping the Prince to change back. They could have made a big deal about the Prince being a musical frog that attracts patrons to Tiana's new restaurant and then make the moral dilemma about whether she wants success or to change the Prince back. Tiana could be racked with insecurity because she doesn't know if its her hard work and cooking that keeps bringing people, or if its because of the frog.

This is actually a really really good idea, semi inspired by the "hello my baby hello my honey" episode of looney tunes/merrie melodies lol? But yeah I could totally get behind that idea.

The plot is a pretty sloppy. Feels like it was rewritten a million times. Dr Facilier is the best part, but like other people have said, the movie kinda squandered his character. The whole thing could've been so much more than what wound up on screen.

My thing with it is that if you watch Zootopia and Moana, you can see how much better Disney can be with their story telling. Princess and the Frog feels like it belongs in the 1950's.

It was good, but it could have been a lot better. While the characters are good, the story feels like it's missing its second act.

I think Disney was a bit too preoccupied with how the film might be perceived and didn't focus enough on fleshing out the story.

Yeah. I was reading how Lasseter rehired those 2D animators Bruce W Smith, Mark Henn, Ruben Aquino, etc to work on the film and the director chose to model the design after Lady and the Tramp.

But just because the movie disappointed financially doesn't mean the reason for it was being in 2D.
