CNN wanted to dox the jurors in this trial.

https://thefederalist.com/2018/08/17/federal-judge-denies-cnn-request-dox-jurors-manafort-trial/

But cnn!

Why is CNN trying to dox the jury members not important iyo? It's pretty fucking important tbh.

https://www.villagevoice.com/2018/08/20/conservatives-cant-identify-journalism-confuse-it-with-doxxing/

We may never find out what jurors thought or heard during deliberations once the trial ends. Judge T.S. Ellis III has blocked the release of any information that might get them identified by the press. Requesting access to juror info is a common reporter gambit used, for example, after the Bill Cosby trial to get the sort of juror quotes you read in high-level, post-trial reports. The Associated Press, the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, NBC, Politico, and BuzzFeed all petitioned the court together to obtain the jurors names and addresses and other currently unavailable Manafort trial information, citing precedent that jury information should be revealed absent extraordinary circumstances such as realistic threats of violence or jury corruption.

But, Judge Ellis said there had been threats to him. Ellis revealed he was under the protection of U.S. marshals, and said he feared for the jurors peace and safety, which led him to refuse the request.

Seems pretty straightforward. But conservatives who did not know, or did not care to know that this was standard journalistic practice told readers that reporters wanted to know the jurors names, not to write stories, but so they could dox them to coerce a conviction of Manafort on behalf of the Democrats.

It has nothing to do with the topic at hand and is a lazy deflection

It's literally about the trial that's being discussed. How can you say it has nothing to do with it?

Aren't Manafort's charges really unrelated to the campaign as a whole? Cohen saying he violated laws through Trump is much more damning to Trump than Manafort's charges which really deal with his personal dealings from what I read.

Manaforts guilty verdict isnt directly tied to Trump but it gives Manafort incentive to flip on Trump in order to avoid jail.

I really don't think Manafort will flip, because he may know enough that flipping may, in a tragic and completely unrelated fashion, end with polonium in his coffee. He's really in deep with the Russians, IIRC. That and his record of being a booster for various right-wing dictators were why his hiring as Trump's campaign manager was so eye-brow raising.

I doubt there will be much, if any, fall-out for Trump in all this, but that's okay. Paul Manafort is human garbage and him rotting in prison, while possibly too good for him, is a very good thing.

It's fucking stupid to claim that "it's just journalism as usual" knowing fully well that the judge in this trial already received death threats himself. What they were doing in this case is exactly the same as doxxing because it isn't a normal trial and there are other factors to consider like the safety of the jury members.

Villagevoice.com is rated as being "moderately to strongly biased toward liberal causes through story selection and/or political affiliation."

According to https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/

So the third point is at best a wash. The first point is irrelevant. Topics on CE literally are not confined by what you decide the appropriate level of relevance posts have to have to the topic title. There is no topicality here to speak of, and regardless this is directly related to the topic title to begin with.

Read the article the Trumpanzees posted, its
singling out CNN while also mentioning that it was a joint filing by various news organizations. And it was asking for information about the court case, court cases involves jurors. Its on the prosecutor or defense to ask for a court order which withholds the names of jurors (an innominate jury)

So this is just another nothingburger by desperate Trumpanzees trying to undermine anything bad regarding Trump & his criminal friends.

You guys should really stop falling for fake news

To be fair, the average conservative has probably never been exposed to actual journalism

That doesn't explain why they wanted the jurors identities to be exposed.

Requesting access to juror info is a common reporter gambit used, for example, after the Bill Cosby trial

They were requesting the doxx before this trial ended.

Judge was sent threats. The very same article you're quoting references this.

Because there's nothing indicating they'd actually name the Jurors. As it noted the names were released in the Cosby trial and as far as I'm aware only two of them have publicly outed themselves, with none by the media, and one of them (who did the TV interviews) was before the names were even officially released.

Nope, the new line is "it's journalism, not doxxing, when we do it"; see previous posts ITT.

Or just people saying "it's only a deflection and isn't relevant", even though it's directly about the people involved in the trial.

A few points:
*As others have stated, the topic is on the legal outcomes of the trial - feel free to make another thread on CNN's role in the trial
*Maybe you didn't read the whole thread, but post 52 pointed out the Federalist article was intentionally misleading.
https://www.villagevoice.com/2018/08/20/conservatives-cant-identify-journalism-confuse-it-with-doxxing/
*The Federalist also has a history of being misleading/creating biased stories (at least according to Wikipedia) - does this make them "Fake news"? If so, why was it cited?

It's fucking stupid to claim that "it's just journalism as usual" knowing fully well that the judge in this trial already received death threats himself. What they were doing in this case is exactly the same as doxxing because it isn't a normal trial and there are other factors to consider like the safety of the jury members.

Did you read the second article about why it ISN'T doxxing?
And you didn't respond to the first or third points, care to try again?

Villagevoice.com is rated as being "moderately to strongly biased toward liberal causes through story selection and/or political affiliation."

According to https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/

So the third point is at best a wash. The first point is irrelevant. Topics on CE literally are not confined by what you decide the appropriate level of relevance posts have to have to the topic title. There is no topicality here to speak of, and regardless this is directly related to the topic title to begin with.

So while the two sources may be biased, what did you find factually incorrect in the village voice article? In other threads you have stated two instances DON'T make a pattern (when talking about Trump's activities etc). Is this metric not correct anymore?
As for relevance to thread title, topics do have SOME limits, otherwise there wouldn't be a purpose FOR a thread title. What does CNN's activities have to do with Manafort being found guilty? Did they orchestrate a guilty verdict?
