Well, we're down to the final three, and two of these characters will face each other in the finals. There's assuredly going to be an unconventional finalist in the field but is there a possibility of two?

Rules:

- You personally (No bots/scripts/lending of accounts) can save 1 character per hour.
- A character needs 9 votes to be saved.
- 9 unique users need to save a character for that character to be saved.
- Ambiguous (i.e. "Cid" or "Cloud") or "If X, then Y" saves will not count.
- Last character unsaved is eliminated.
- No alts, no rallying, no post deletion/editing (unless correcting an update), no spoiler tags. Save trading is A-OK!
- If you want to update, make sure it's accurate.
- Only Inviso can start up new topics.
- Community Rule is in effect. Deliberate rules violations will result in bans.

3. Oerba Dia Vanille

FFXIII's playable cast feels so unique, because every single one of them feels like they're important to the plot. Lightning is the mascot, and while I can't speak to future games, she serves her role as the "main character" well. Fang is the REAL main character, who is the "chosen one" that has to save/end the world. Sazh and Hope each serve as emotional centers, as both a child and a parent who are ripped from their comfortable lives by the plot and forced to try and make do with the shitty hand fate dealt them. And Snow is the almost ENTIRELY positive hero archetype who provides the team with some much-needed "never give up" attitude.

So why Viso, you might ask, have I dedicated the entire first paragraph of this write-up to everyone BUT Vanille? Well, it's simple really. Vanille is not the "main" character in terms of the action revolving around her, nor is she the "main" character in terms of the game pushing her to the forefront of the story. BUT, she is the "main" character of FFXIII in terms of being the heart of the cast. For all the crap Hope goes through, he's a kid that has to deal with the worst set of circumstances imaginable. But Vanille? She has to deal with that shit TWICE. Once when she got cursed by the Pulse fal'Cie, and once again when she awoke from her crystalline state.

From the point Vanille wakes up, it's important to note that she is at the center of the plot. She's not Fang. She's not this battle-hardened badass. She's just a kid (an older kid, but a kid nonetheless in comparison to the rest of the cast minus Hope.) And EVERYTHING goes wrong for her. She winds up getting Serah marked by the Cocoon fal'Cie, and Dajh as well, which leads to everyone else getting marked. And Vanille is all alone throughout all of this. Fang...she's tough and she can handle herself, but she's absent from the core group for a sizable chunk of the plot. Vanille though? She's caught right up in the shit.

If not for Lightning taking down the train in the opening segment, she'd've been purged just like everyone else. And then she's stuck with this group of people, knowing that not only have all of their lives been ruined in part due to her/Fang's actions, but also the lives of the people they care about. And to make matters worse, she can never speak of her role in any of this, because she doesn't know how they'll react. Cocoon already treats her people as enemies...so why should she assume that Cocoon's population will just give her a pass?

What makes her character all the more gripping is the fact that she falls under the "perky young girl" archetype, so she's always gotta be happy and peppy and just generally keep the mood light. This works when pairing her with Sazh, but it's depressing when you hear her narration in stark contrast to the events on-screen. This is a girl who just wants to keep running rather than having to face the harsh reality of her situation. The moment when all is revealed and she has to tell Sazh that she's the reason his life is ruined and he lost his son? Heartbreaking. Because these were two friends, and Sazh looked at himself as a protector for Vanille, and it was all for the very person who destroyed him.

And of course, her role in Fang's story can't be understated. She's just as willing to sacrifice herself to save the day as Fang is, and she suffers in order to accomplish this goal. Despite her bubbly exterior, Vanille's a tough and heroic character and she really stands out among a STELLAR cast of playable characters overall.

Shame about Vanille. And yeah I like her a lot cause she kinda flips the typical "perky young girl" type on its head with her internal monologues and some of her dialogue. Like she's more often doing it because she feels like she has to to keep morale up than because it's her personality per se. I feel like in more light hearted times Vanille actually might be a bit more of a thoughtful chill type rather than WOO ENERGY~. I think that's neat to think about.

You kinda get a bit of that feel with Rikku too from time to time but I think there's a bit more of a contrast with Vanille which is interesting. Rikku's more like "peppy girl who can be serious once in a while when the mood calls for it" and Vanille is like "girl who is serious deep down most of the time but pretends to be peppy to help try and keep things light."

Also her weapon is badass. I wish physical attack Vanille was more viable but what can ya do.

Easily my favorite FFXIII character and one who would be on my list, and possibly my favorite from your list too. (Faris Edgar and Setzer are the only other considerations)
