It was a Playstation game. I really liked it. Especially the battle system. And how the additions worked and leveled. I felt the equipment system was pretty basic. But it's an old game. And I wish you could carry more items. But, in the end, I really like it a lot. What about you guys?

Imagine most people liked it. (And PO isn't most people >_>)

The graphics were great for the time, the battle system was pretty neat, and... well, that's pretty much it. I recall the story being unremarkable and, at the time, people were claiming it ripped off FF7 (which I never really bought, but whatever).

I never finished it. Can't remember why. Also never finished Legend of Legaia (also a fun game), FF7 (got near the end but had been taping cutscenes and ran out of tape or something), and FF9 (kept trying to steal an item from the Falgabird of Fire or something with a weird name like that -- basically it's the part where you break your group into 4 parties so each can beat one of these bosses).

Fun fact: It's a lot easier to do with Lavitz than with Albert. It's generally slower and the window to input the command was much wider than Albert. Applies to all their shared moves really.
Yes. I once did take the time to learn all of Lavitz's moves before leaving Hellena Prison lol.

Loved it. Only played through it once though, because load times for battles and other stuff were killer. Grinding was absolute hell because of it.

I did like playing around with the New Game+ glitch that was discovered. And that led me to discover similar glitches for other games.

My primary complaint about the game was that the grind was heavy when it game to money and experience. A distant second complaint is how it seemed like a third of the bosses punished you, by doing more damage, if you were in Dragoon form; or maybe I'm misremembering a bit besides the Visages.

I also dislike how Sony wants us to forget this game even existed.

I remember some time ago when Sony made a post on Facebook saying the reason we could all look forward to another inFamous game is because they don't forget their IPs, because they care so much about them. They treated that post as something of a Q&A. I immediately swooped in by quoting their claim of care and remembrance of their own IPs, and I asked if that meant they had plans for Legend of Dragoon.

The answers all stopped suddenly.

its a good game, but it doesnt hold up for me, the combat way too minimalistic, as is the micromanagment and customization of the heroes. its all very liniear and doesnt ever get better for the most part

this was always an issue for me even back then, when u had games like FFT where customization is even still till this day, a very insanely large list of possibilities.

I didn't dislike it. I just thought it was a middling RPG at a time when far better RPGs were being released, and I wasn't overly fond of the timed combat mechanic.

If it had come out a few years earlier, and I wasn't comparing it to FFVII/VIII and Suikoden I/II, I'd probably have a higher opinion of it.

A clear example of quality over quantity. Content is very scarce, item inventory and equipment system is basic and story is bland.

It compensates with decent animations and graphics and very addictive combat that hasn't been replicated to date, I think.

I did that on ALL of my playthroughs after the first. That is, max out Gust of Wind Dance w/ Lavitz early on, cause I despised Albert's addition timings.

And I love how all of Rose's addition names are suggestive. The exact tone and way she says "Hard Blade" is forever etched into my mind. :)

Yeah, whoever says that is bs'ing, I've played both and its story is nothing like FF7's.

Anyway, it's one of my all time favorite RPGs. As a kid, my friend and I ragged on it a fair bit for the sillier aspects (like the awful voice acting) and kinda dismissed it as just ok. But I've grown to appreciate it a lot more w/ age.
I used to think the music aside from Dart's theme was mediocre, but it's actually got a great OST, just not quite as good as a FF OST.
Graphics were lovely for the time, yeah.
Battle system was both amazing and one of the worst aspects. I actually didn't complete the game until a replay 8 years after the first playthrough, because I stopped playing for a few weeks in the middle of the last disc, realized I had completely forgotten all the patterns for the final (7 hit) additions and just...didn't want to relearn at that point.

I love the story in the game so much, though. I really didn't see the huge plot twist that Rose is the Black Monster coming. I figured she knew a lot more about it than she let on and that it might be a red herring as far as being positioned as if it's the final boss but I didn't think it'd turn out to be that. I also really like Dart's character growth, how initially he cares about nothing but revenge, but by the time the truth is revealed, he's willing to forgive her so readily.
It's kind of one of my top "D&D DMing fantasies" to find some players wanting to make characters with similar backstories and motivations to Dart and the rest (with Rose's player being in on it w/ me), and seeing if I can recreate the plot of LoD just by changing the names of stuff and pull off the plot twist on the players myself.

"For 11,000 years, there have been no exceptions."
Just imagining building an actual D&D campaign to that line of dialogue gives me chills!

They were pointing out to things like the character death and the casino as similarities -- and then noting how FF7 did them better -- which was kinda reaching. Can't remember the rest of the argument, but it wasn't anything compelling.

I don't know why I clicked on that. I don't think I got to that point because I would remember that. I thought the spoiler was about an earlier event.

Can't remember my first RPG. I would assume it was either something on the NES (can't think of one, though) or PC (maybe an Ultima game? Do King's Quest games count?). Otherwise it could be one of the many SNES ones I played.

Casino in LoD? They mean the carnival games in the merchant town? That's really a stretch to say it's the same...
As for the spoiler, I thought Lavitz's death was way sadder than Aerith's though I think the latter event is extremely overrated in general.

tbh, in the time before walkthroughs, I'd just beat games normally. Then eventually I'd get stuck and need something or just get in the habit of relying on this. I think I first learned about Gamefaqs possibly in relation to missing a bomb-able wall in OoT.

Wow, you really didn't get far into the game. :)
Though that first disc alone feels like an entire game's plot arc all on its own.

Sorry I spoiled the best plot twist for you, but you really should still give it a play through to experience in full. Still plenty of other plot twists in that game, some even in the same scene as the one I already mentioned.

I actually started/beat this game about 2 months ago. I'd give it a solid 7/10. Gameplay can get rather stale after a while since it's pretty much just additions. Story really went to shit at the end of disc 3. But I really enjoyed most of Disc 1 through 3. Albert was my favorite character both gameplay and story wise.
