I'm keeping up with it, gonna raid heroic when it comes out in a week or so, and it's pretty nice so far. Economy's fucked, azerite gear is iffy, but they're following other good trends they set in Legion for the most part.

Legion was probably better, but it makes sense that a good expansion following a great one would get more subs, since more people have started paying attention to WoW since Legion.

i agree. legion had so many big changes, and BfA just kind of keeps going with them instead of making its own. doesn't feel like a huge step. but if ain't broke, ok?

isnt there a zone after the questing zones that people consider 'the suramar' of BfA?

That doesn't actually disprove the argument. That's saying the expansion set a first-day sales record, not an overall sales record. Other expansions could easily have sold more copies, they just didn't sell more copies on the first day.

Which actually makes sense - people who are still obsessed with WoW now are more likely to buy first-day in an era where pre-orders and digital distribution is becoming more of a norm, whereas in the past, when there were more casual players still in the mix, they might have put off buying a new expansion for a while.

Consdering WoW at its peak was running something like 11 million active players while these days it's closer to 3-4 million, it definitely isn't as "relevant" as it used to be.

Which is not to say that it's not "relevant" at all (for whatever definition of "relevance" you want to use), but this really isn't proof that it's as relevant as it ever was, either.

I never said it was as relevant as it ever was. In fact, I guarantee you, unless a miracle happens, that it will never reach those numbers again, ok?

Not really, but a lot more stuff opens up on the enemy island.

There's a likely chance we'll get a third island sometime in a major patch, though. Speculations ahoy from about a year ago; People triangulated the position of N'zoth's city, Ny'lotha, to be somewhere between Kul Tiras and Zuldazar. Info comes from Chronicles maps. So as Azshara and N'zoth become more and more relevant to the story, it seems fairly likely that Ny'lotha might be raised from the sea, functioning as a Broken Shore or Argus equivalent.
