For TV/movies, while I'm not sure I agree wholly, the first season/movie has to spend a lot of time introducing characters and ideas; the second doesn't have that burden but is closer to the original vision than all subsequent entries

It avoids the burdens of introducing the world and characters while avoiding the difficulty of having an ending.
