In Which multiple things happen to a character, any of which ought to be fatal. Eventually, one of them is. In video games, this is often a Recurring Boss.

There can be several reasons for this:
1. The character is just that tough, and their killers want to make absolutely sure that they go down and stay down.
2. The character is backed by Powers That Be or some other supernatural thing.
3. The first fatal thing that happens is relatively slow-acting, and knowledge of it leads them to do something drastic.
4. Someone really hates them.
5. It's funny.

In the first metal gear game (not solid) big boss took 5 rockets to the face to kill

Not to mention In MGS3 alone Big Boss gets his bones broken and thrown off a bridge by his mentor, gets electrically tortured by Volgin, loses his eye, falls off a waterfall, nearly drowns, and maybe even eats expired food!

Well, see that's the thing. He keeps not dying from all those things and living for years to come.

Of course MGSV retcons it so it's Venom in MG1 and actually does die, so there's that.

well yeah, that's what the trope is

someone who keeps having things happen that could be fatal, only for them to keep surviving (but then eventually dying anyway)

I was interpreting it as still somewhat in relatively short order, but hey if that's not a qualifier than by all means Big Boss counts. In which case, I have another one.
