Well, not totally true. Absolutely loved Dragon Warrior Monsters 1 and 2. This track is burned into my head more than possibly any other out there.

Can't speak for DQXI since I haven't played it yet, but I just wanted to say I freaking LOVE Dragon Quest Monsters 1 and 2. I randomly got the urge to play them a few months ago when Siralim 3 came out. Man, that was a blast of nostalgia.

you should temper your expectations at least a little bit

if you didn't enjoy the dqviii demo

this game probably won't be much different

a DQ game isn't going to be, like, mindblowingly good - it's just classic JRPG fun. if that's what you want, great. just don't expect more than that.

This is true for the most part, but DQ is like, THE classic JRPG series. It's as simple and pure as it gets, but nobody does that simplicity and pureness better. Depending on how much you love that classic feel I can imagine DQ games being dreams come true for a lot of folks.

It actually deviates a bit from the traditonal DQ formula. For example, no random battles (you can see enemies on the map) and you can jump on buildings and stuff. Oh and you can camp and there's auto-save

dq8 had enemies on the map at least. not sure about the other things

but theres something about XI thats getting me fucking hyped and I don't know why that is

for DQ8, it was only special monsters (that you could catch to use in the monster arena) that appeared on the map. Otherwise, random battles were just spawned, which was one of the more frustrating elements of early game play before fast travel was available.

This was definitely a thing in 9, as well as the 3DS remakes of 7 and 8. I assume 10 also did this, but its a Japan-exclusive MMO so Ive never really looked into it. Thats still the most recent presentations of at least 4!of the last 5 main games (including 11), which makes me think its safe to say theyre keeping it as the new series standard.

oh, I don't disagree with you. that's what i was trying to convey. it's just there's still a difference between "wow this is a dream, so pleasant" and "this game is blowing me away at every corner"
