It seems excessive to pay so much for a small meal that isn't that filling, or a haircut.

Like I went to the Thai restaurant for lunch and got curry puffs and massuman curry with shrimp. $18 plus tax plus tip would make it like $24-25? A lot for just lunch. I think I gave $23.

I usually tip 20% or $1 per drink and $3 per plate, depending on how much work they did.

this, minus the plate thing.

20% always, but when I'm drinking at a bar it's $1 a drink.

If there is a server or delivery driver involved, then I will tip. $3 for pizza delivery and 20% for most restaurants with servers. Those people are paid very unfairly and they seriously rely on the generosity of customers to pay rent.

I also tip 20% when I get a haircut because I go to a proper salon and receive a scalp massage.

I would leave the tip blank and fill in the total, unless the meal already came to a reasonable price.

It was reasonable and the food tasted great, but just automatically including 18% tip in the subtotal soured my experience. I left the additional tip line blank.

the benefits of tipping are understated, people generally give you much better service if you leave a good tip as a return customer and if you're remembered as a usual customer you get treated even better.

What is considered better service? As it is, all they do is take my order, put the plate on my table, and then fill my glass with water once.

i usually tip 10-15% here in Canada.

pizza drivers i always tip 25% though unless they're, like, hilariously late. but that's just due to my experience with being a pizza driver.

a lot of the time it's not the driver's fault, it's the kitchens.

You should be tipping the driver 25% - 30%, unless they sucked. Fuck the servers. I tip, but damn I hate tipping servers. The drivers actually have to make it to my place without crashing, so there is more effort involved for him/her.

I don't go by the normal percentage conventions. I do a $5 minimum and add on dollars based on stuff like service, total bill amount, or whatever I feel like. Usually this amounts to a 15-20 percent tip, sometimes higher, I don't think I've ever given less than 10% though.

I used to get Jimmy Johns for lunch most weekdays, because I tipped well the delivery person knew I did so they'd throw in extra cookies and give me around 2x as much stuff on my sub as would be considered normal.

At a local diner I was known as a regular and they would often throw in extra bacon and eggs on the house because they knew I tipped well and came there for breakfast a lot.

I used to regular a bar where the bartenders were cool with me and I tipped decently, they would gift me a 6 or 8 pack of a GLBC variety at the end of the night during closing time.

That's just a few examples.

Its kinda funny, ever since I got an office job Ive been a shit tipper. Never more than 2-3 bucks regardless. Honestly I dont care. If youre in need of good money, do something more deserving than being a fucking waiter.

If they are truly exceptional at their job though Ill give more.

I do usually tip at least 1 buck per drink at a bar. I understand that that is just a part of drinking at bars.

I never tip less than $10, which is the minimum wage per hour in my county, so it seems fair I pitch in at least that much for about an hour of their time.

That said my average tip is about $15 - $20 with the average bill at around $40 - $60.

No formula, no percentage. Just pull out some 20s and go.

For simplicitys sake yeah.

Realistically Ill be paying cash, so leave a 10 and a 20 and tell them to keep the change, thats a $16 tip. If I dont have that 10 then its two 20s so $26 tip.

I like to think I am, whoever came up with the 15%-20% thing was kind of a jerk but whatever there must be a reason. For anything under $10 with food I tip $2, same with drinks for the most part unless it's a beer then I tip $1. I do not tip based on service, but if I get pissed off I won't leave any tip and very rarely I leave no tip cuz I feel I've tipped generously for a long time and don't need to. I usually do 10% + half of that rounded to the nearest dollar but if I'm presented with the option to tip 18% I pick that. It can be confusing to tip, especially at more expensive restaurants where experienced butlers and waitresses think it's good to be complete assholes cuz they're used to getting big tips, makes me want to dine and dash.

For 10% take the total and move the decimal to the left 1 space. So 10% of $67.34 is $6.73. For 20%, double that number, so it's $13.47. 15% is in the middle of those numbers.

It always pains me when I see people pulling out their phones to get the calculator out for tips.

You realize that if you're getting these for paying extra they're not free, right?

I tip 50% of the bill. My highest tip thus far has been $38.

I do not go out to places where tips are expected unless I know I can afford it.

Bad service gets 30%, and supreme service gets 75%. Godly service gets 100% of which I have only done twice.

Edit: Actually I forgot the time I tipped the bartender $78 in California. But that was 50% so it depends on how you count it. Percentage vs. value.
