When I went ta elementary school in Cali we played a game that was always called "handball", but when I moved ta different states after that everyone had a different game they called handball so iunno what the actual name is

But it was basically a 1v1 game where you hit a dodgeball with a baseball swing'a yer fists onna the ground'n bounce it off the wall, 'n you tried ta make it so the other kid couldn't get ta the ball in time, got hit with the ball, or they hit the ball directly inna the wall without bouncin' it first

There was another one called Castle I think that was essentially dodgeball but there were these cones on the backline'a each team, 'n the extra goal was ta prevent yer cones from gettin' knocked over. It was super huge at the school I went to 'n I remember havin' a lotta fun with it but I'm a lil muddy on rememberin' the rules

But THIS was the elementary goat.

One of my PE teachers (before I had to move schools) made dodgeball even more intersting where she would randomly pick 4 starter 'infected' crabs and have them be at the center of the gym, walk at students like spiders, and throw balls at us doing laps outside the foul line. If a kid got hit they'd join in the crawling crabs.and continue until there's one last kid standing.

Shit was so much fun and exhausting.

in my middle school we had something called war ball

basically like dodgeball but the balls were smaller, and it was two classes of 30 against each other in the gym

And kids had moves like The Waterfall where you could try to hit the wall with as little bounce back as you can so they have to rush forward to hit it. The Superman is when you hit it with a closed fist like Superman flying through the sky. The Hadouken when you simply do a Hadouken and call it out, lol

We just went with Rich Man, Poor Man.

We also had simplified versions of Euchre that we just called 3-Man or 4-Man Trumps.

Also, for the majority of the world, hand ball is a hocker/soccer type of game where you pass a ball around using your hands trying to score in the other team's goal.

No, there's a bunch of calvinball bullshit when it comes to 4 square about bounces, spins, slams, "black magic", "white magic", and such. It varies from local sphere to local sphere.

Kickball is a more established ruleset but requires too many people and often drags on. Freeze Tag and/or manhunt are better large scale games imo.

Therefore best candidate is wall ball as it's doable with 2 people, with clear rules, and relatively short sessions for player rotation and/or getting sidetracked by the swing set.

Our version of wall ball was 2-4 kids on the wall and 1 kid throwing. It was basically dodge ball with only 1 ball and 1 thrower at a time.

I didn't see any kickball (on the playground) or 4 square when I switched to public school in 2nd grade. Everyone played soccer, tetherball, or some sort tag (freeze, don't touch the ground, etc)

Some friends and I learned how to play 4 square when we were in like 10th grade at our club pool and it was actually really intense
