Amazon, for the most part. I dislike bidding. Moreso I dislike having the winning bid, only to be outbid in the closing moments of the auction.

Maybe it's just the items I look to eBay for, then. I just tried buying something over the past couple weeks and on more than one occasion was outbid as the sale ended.

Generally Amazon since you can buy products outright instead of possibly bidding on them and shipping is less of an issue. It's also easier to find stuff on Amazon.

This. Also it's annoying to wait until the last minute of an auction to place a bid.

Amazon. I haven't used Ebay in like two decades. Ebay has probably changed since then but Amazon was far more hassle free. Returns were quick and easy. Didn't require me to sign up with PayPal, because fuck PayPal. No worries on getting scammed. It wasn't an auction site. They were easier to find what I wanted. I almost never had to pay for shipping on my stuff, even before getting Prime. All of those reasons pushed me to Amazon and I never gave Ebay a second thought.

I like eBay and find some good deals despite the bidding.
Amazon has just become the necessary evil for everything else.

I was at a flea market last weekend and witnessed a dying culture. Some of the vendors were checking thier items online while trying to haggle.

Ebay has some pretty good deals. You can even get free shipping sometimes. People go for Amazon because they like the Prime shipping and knowing exactly when they will get a package.

Free shipping on eBay is usually just the shipping price put into the items cost. If a seller uses free shipping a buyer can't leave bad ratings on shipping costs. And can also attract buyers that see the "free shipping" even if the items cost is higher.

Also if a seller uses free shipping, buyers can't save on shipping if buying multiple items from the same seller. More $ in sellers pocket this way.

I'm sure I'm missing other stuff on free shipping on eBay.

I don't like auctions, I don't trust eBay as a company to mediate in cases where a seller defaults on agreements or lie about product details, and I loathe PayPal and categorically refuse to use it.

There's other minor reasons, but those are the major ones that come to mind off the top of my head. And I acknowledge that at least some of those complaints are rooted in things being terrible years ago, and they might have been improved upon since then, but I'm already long since soured on it enough to never want to give it a second chance now. Especially when better alternatives already exist, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on a single worthwhile thing.

Absolute bullshit. And if you're going to make up a bullshit statistic, you shouldn't be so fucking obvious about it. If you said 60%, I might have just thought it wrong without questioning it, but you got greedy.

EBay. I have rarely had an issue, and it was the seller, and I don't mind bidding. I like finding low priced, retro games and bidding in the off chance I win.
Idk when some of you last bid, but you can put in your max bid now, so not much last minute losses.

Kinda. In theory it might be a little worse because, for efficiency reasons, Amazon combines stock together so it can fill orders faster. So unlike ordering from a major company on ebay, you can order from Amazon itself (or a reputable seller who uses Amazon for fulfillment) and potentially get a counterfeit or otherwise bad product.

In practice, I don't think I've run into nearly as many counterfeit listings on Amazon and the few times I bought a counterfeit there I suspected it was a counterfeit going in (unlike ebay where I bought what I thought was a legit copy of Pokemon Fire Red and much too late confirmed that it was definitely a counterfeit -- which is annoying because I greatly overpaid for a counterfeit with a gamebreaking problem)

Also, to the counterfeit discussion, for certain products I'll knowingly buy a counterfeit if I think the quality will be decent. Nendoroids are a great example since the price for the legit product is insane whereas I've picked up a few for $13 with free shipping.

Amazon. Returns are so easy, and a lot of the time they dont even want the product back and you can keep it. Just happened with some vacuum sealer bags. I was supposed to get 2 rolls. Only got one.

I've never run into one that didn't want the product back >_>

Granted, it's still a far cry from ebay sellers who completely fucked up on their end then wanted *me* to pay for shipping to send a product back so it could be replaced. I finally just took a small discount and settled for the wrong color controller. The more I think about it, the more ebay has screwed me over the years although at least in some cases the site itself reimbursed me. (In another case, they banned a seller and I had to contact Paypal to get them to release the held funds back into my account and, between the two customer supports, I spent 30-40 minutes on the phone. Granted, I probably shouldn't have bid on that thing in the first place.)

Edit: I'll also point out I don't bid on Ebay. "Buy now" works for me.
