Great music, but man, if you die, you gotta grind weapon energy for your items, or crash bomb if you died at that one boss. Hell if you run out of bubble lead in the final boss, are you just fucked? idk if there's any place to grind it.

Mega Man 2 is fun but man is that castle bullshit >_>

Yeah, it's really not much fun to actually play.
It would be horrible, except that track is legit amazing and helps ease the frustration of grinding.

I usually find the Wily/Sigma/etc. sections of Mega Man games disappointing, but MM2's actually one of the few exceptions for me. MM2 & MM7 have easily my favorite Wily sections of the classic series (though I still need to play 8-10).

Mega Man for the Gameboy had a similar problem. You could only defeat Wiley by reflecting his attacks back at him with the mirror buster. It's the absolute last weapon you get before you fight him so basically you can't really even play with it or else you have to start over.

That said I beat it but it wasn't fun. The rush I felt after beating it just wasn't worth the frustration of losing all my lives in the Castle.

It's not that difficult to grind. The only bullshit part about the castle is the boo beam room.

Besides, the mecha dragon is the best part of the whole game.

The fortress stages didn't really pick up until MM4.

The first is decent with variety, but difficult. It takes practice to understand the layouts, and the bosses.

As for the second it was kind of lazy in places. I dislike the flicker that can occur when fighting Mecha Dragon. It has resulted in many unnecessary deaths. The third stage is far too short, and the boss is too easy. Boo Beam Trap is infamous for it's use of Crash Bomb only and backtracking if you die or run out.

While MM3 is my favorite of the classics the fortress is so empty. I can beat it so quickly and the bosses are far too simple. There's one feature I dislike. If you're new to the game and manage to game over towards the end of the fortress you'll be given the options for Continue, and Stage Select. Curious why stage select would even be there, but if you choose it you go all the way back to the beginning of the fortress. I had a friend do this twice when he played the game blind. He was livid.

and yes there are other MegaMan games where spcific weapons are required for a boss. As stated above some of the Gameboy titles have this issue. In MM4 for NES the final Wily capsule can only be damaged by Pharaoh Shot and Ring Boomerang.

This is true. Some weapons have their uses in stages while others may not be used at all.

In MM4 I find certain weapons help in different rooms, but the game has you focused on using Ring Boomerang, Dust Crusher, and Pharaoh Shot for the most part. There's enough weapon energy laying about to refill as you go. Some of the robot masters are easy enough to do buster only anyway.

MM5 is known for having an overpowered buster that you can breeze through most of the game with it alone. In the fortress stages you wind up using Rush more than anything else.

MM6 is also Rush heavy with you switching between the suits over and over, but like 4 certain weapons help in particular areas. Wind Storm however is one of the most useless weapons. I think I only use it twice in the entire game.

Yes you need to game over if you run out. The alien is immune to every other weapon.

Yeah I just beat it again last week, and it's by far the easiest part of the game. Dat music tho in Wily stage 3&4.

Music aside, I agree with the guy who said that the castles don't get that good until 4.

Can you even beat the fourth boss in MM2's wiley stage without running outta Crash? I can always get close, but I have to die to refill it and then finish the fight.

If you open and close the menu rapidly when the cannons fire, the shots go through you without harming you.
