There was an item that dropped from a raid boss in WoW once only.

Can't recall the item or the boss, but that one has my vote

Came in to say this. Was later made unobtainable and only the one dude out of millions ever got it

The only item that "only dropped once" was the Ahn Qiraj world quest key shit and it was actually one per server, not one for the whole game.

Something like the Bugfinder Blade is probably more rare. To get it, you had to find an exploitable client side glitch involving duping or some other game breaking issue that Blizzard didn't already know about and report it. I believe only 4 of them were ever handed out.

Think they're referring to Talisman of Binding Shard.

https://www.wowhead.com/item=17782/talisman-of-binding-shard

https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/character/blackrock/Savorx

That's the guy who got it

Edit: The neck slot is empty. I guess they removed it from him

Yes. Him getting that item was a bug and they let him keep it. It was a leftover from unused thing from the old Thunderfury quest. Later they outright deleted the item it doesn't exist anymore. I wouldn't really call that a rare item--it was an unintended glitch.

Shows the difference between Blizz now and then.

This morning people were getting ilvl540 gear (current best non-raid gear available is ilvl355) from a glitch and they're systematically going through deleting all of them from people's accounts.

Back then it was "hey yeah we fucked up but you can keep it".

IIRC the neck was crappy statswise. He equipped it to show off.

ilvl 540 gear is.... like half Legion's ilvl where you were doing 20 million dps. That's a problem.

Isn't there a spear in FFXII where you have to not open certain chests to even get a chance to obtain it and even then it's like a 1% or less chance the chest it can be in will contain it?

Yep, the zodiac spear. There are two ways of obtaining it initially.

The first was to not open four specific chests in the game until the game world opened up. When it did, you then had to go to a high level area and grab it from a certain chest without dying.

I've got to disagree with this part a bit. It wasn't some hard area you have to beat, the only challenge to getting it was not opening the chests, which is a bull shit thing to do, IMO, but it wasn't in some impossible area.

Zero reason why this weapon should be in this topic. You have a 100% to get it if you don't open the chests

If we're talking about Final Fantasy, The Excalibur II is harder to get, and even that is 100% if you do it under the time. I don't know why so many of you don't understand the question.

Yeah, they absolutely had to get rid of that gear that dropped today because it massively unbalanced the game for players that happened to do a mythic the last week of Legion and happened to check the chest before they realized it. It wasn't 540ilvl, but it was on par with loot highest difficulty of the raid that opened today. With random titanforges, it was surpassing loot from that raid.

That was actually my first thought. IIRC, some where in the thousands.

I think some are in the hundreds of thousands. I don't remember what the rarest is, but Guld-Milla is probably up there, since you need to fuse two super-rare items. Tsumikiri J Sword is also one of the rarest, IIRC.

That's not even the rarest thing in Pokemon. Pokerus is even more rare at 1 in 21,845.

This made me want to know what the chance of finding a perfect IV, shiny Pokmon with pokrus would be.

diablo2 had some pretty low drop rate runes, drop rate for the rarest one from the enemy most likely to drop it (the final boss) was 0.00003%. I'm not sure it's really the "rarest" though because that game was full of duplication glitches/hacks so there are tons of them floating around, just most of them aren't legit <_<

Then again, games with a large multiplayer / trading focus can afford to have lower drop rates on things since there are a lot of people all potentially getting the drops. I'd be curious to see some of the rarest video game items in singleplayer games

Yeah that's in the wild. At least there are ways to increase the odds for the IVs and Shininess to make it super reasonable. Pokerus can be passed so as long as you keep one pokemon with it in storage you're set.

Yup. GameFreak really loves RNG and it's frustrating as hell. I know they want to have varied Pokemon to make battling unpredictable, but they seem to be loathe to give in to the competitive crowd and their attempts to avoid grinding. The newer games parsed out some convenient options, but damn if the RNG keeps it from being what it could.

I mean, I guess it makes the items that much more unique, and more rewarding if you actually get them, but goddamn.

Yeah, the weapons did all feel incredibly unique, but like you said, to bad you basically had to grind the surface off the face of the Earth to find even one.

I remember playing through the entire game and not finding a single exotic until Hard or Very Hard mode.

I feel like Destiny 1's raid Vault of Glass and it's infamously terrible drop rates deserve a mention here. Praetorian Foil takes the cake for that raid. To be clear I mean the original vanilla destiny, not the updated light level 390 version. Praetorian Foil is rare as hell.

https://zkillboard.com/kill/71605015/

No Komodo has been lost, but I see that the blueprint has been auctioned for ~300b (~$3500) pretty recently. So factor in material and the necessary space to build it and I could see it being worth more than a Molok.

Then again, if we're talking about Eve, then it hands down goes to the Palatine Keepstar. But that's less rare and more uber fucking expensive. And nobody has built one yet. Material cost is ~84 trillion... literally over $976,000 if you converted to real world US dollars.

The Danjuro from Final Fantasy XII.

One of my go-to reminders that God is real and occasionally throws us a bone is the one and only time I ever got a Danjuro. At a certain point I'd farmed maybe 30 Larva Eaters, with all the necessary killing to get each one to spawn; there's supposedly a glitch to get them to spawn faster, but I never got it to work). I finally stopped, took stock of my life and how I was wasting it, and said 'okay, I'm gonna kill exactly one more Larva Eater, and then I am never, ever trying this shit again.' Lo and behold, the very last Eater dropped one.

I cherished the damn thing, giving it to Ashe and building her equipment around maximizing it's potential. There's a chance it might have gotten in the killing blow on Yiazmat, though it's far more likely that Vaan with the Yagyu Darkblade got those honors. That was incidentally the only time I ever got a perfect game - all weapons and items obtained, all secret monsters defeated and minigames completed, Sky Pirate Den filled out. So I made a few backup saves just before the Yiazmat fight and vowed that I'd never again attempt to get the four rare drop-only items on a new game. Which is kind of a shame, since on my last playthrough I got a whopping 3 extra Zodiac Escutcheons from the random chest in Barheim Passage, and those would have been a major feather in my cap on a 'master' playthrough.
