Redneck Whacko, Bryan Tucker from Virginia has put up an ELECTRIC FENCE around his PROPERTY on the day school returned so he can stop KIDS from trashing his yard!!

He installed the high voltage fence after he was forced to pick up litter on his property because of school kids waiting at the nearby bus stop.

He said "We've been warning people for years. We called transportation and they refused to do anything about it. They said it was my responsibility if the kids get hurt on my land and that i need to tell them to get off my land and stay in the street. I'm not in charge of other people's children. Nothings stops people. Now these kids will get a nice shock if they try to step food on my property again"

Neighbors are OUTRAGED over it who said he should use signs to warn people off as the controversial move was slammed for putting elementary children in danger.

One neighbor said "The first day of school, really? C'mon now. it would have been different if it was a few days later or something. I understand his concern. I just don't think he understood concerns about their kids. One of them could touch it, fall into it and get shocked".

Tucker was ordered to take it down for violation but he simply MOVED it as he hopes one of the kids will TOUCH IT!!

If he's legally on the hook if kids get injured his property and nobody is doing anything to keep them off, a fence makes perfect sense. An electric fence, though, is kinda going overboard.

Do it. Put it up, kid(s) get injured/killed, guy gets arrested and charged with assault/voluntary manslaughter, and goes to prison. Most inmates view people who've harmed or killed children very poorly so it doesn't go well for him.

I'm in favor of the fence. As someone who lives very close to two different schools (one high, one elementary) and also has a fence around their yard, it doesn't stop kids from doing shit. They still hop the fence, walk through my yard, and scare the shit out of my two outdoor cats. Just the thought of one of those little fucks scaring my cats so they run out into the street pisses me off.

You can have it set to a lower voltage to just give painful static shocks

The biggest problem now is that most kids feel like they never need to be responsible ever, and that they can do pretty much anything.

Pretty certain that electrocuting anyone who wanders onto your property is a felony, regardless of the circumstances. A fence powerful enough to kill at a touch would be illegal anywhere in the USA, certainly in a city.

A low-voltage fence, on the other hand, may or may not be legal depending on the municipality.

Rules like this kind of suck sometimes. Even if he put up a regular fence and went to work before the kids got to his house, if one tried to climb the fence and broke their leg because they fell over, they parent would probably still try to sue...

Farms sometimes have electric fences, but an electric fence is illegal in almost every city in the US for civilian use.

It seems that the county made him take it down because it wasn't actually on his property. He will be allowed to put it back up on his property line, which is 18 feet away from the street. I think that's fair; that should be far enough back that nobody will accidentally touch it. In those pictures, it looks as if the fence is right at the street edge, which seems like it's just asking for a person or car to touch it by mistake.

As long as he moves it in so it's on his property line, and he posts plenty of signage warning that it's an electric fence, I see no problem with it.
It's his property and electric fences aren't illegal to own.

I do think having it set just to give a painful zap vs. "high powered" is enough, but I recall seeing the story elsewhere, where a concerned parent touched it to see how dangerous it was (the bratty kids' parents aren't too bright, either...are you surprised?) and it was just a mild shock.

Actually, the CNN link mentions this:

James Mehfoud owns houses in the neighborhood and said he felt a "slight shock" when he touched the fence.
"I understand his concern. I just don't think he understood the neighbors' concern about their kids. One of them could touch it and get shocked," he told WTVR.

So yeah, it's fine. Funny they didn't give a shit about what their kids were doing when they were free to trash this guy's lawn, but NOW they care quite a lot!

Also, if he puts the fence back up, he should make sure the signs say something like "This can kill you", even if it probably won't, just to minimize the chance that anyone will get hurt.
