And there's some basis for the stereotype, both in that there are absurdly high-functioning autistics and in that autistics are supposed far better at repetitive tasks than the general population (NPR had a feature discussing some university that hired some autistic workers to identify fossils and other samples where the autistic workers both had a greater accuracy and a faster working speed than the non-autistic workers). Supposedly the underemployment rate is far higher among the autistic population so there might be at least some misunderstanding going on. Mead posted...
