It is home to 393.3 MILLION civilian owned guns and has a population of 316.5 million people..amounting to 120 firearms per 100 people!! It's significantly more than Canada that has a population of 36.6 million peope and owns 12.7 million guns or 34 guns per 100 people. even Mexico that has 130 million people and 16.9 million guns or just 13 guns per 100 people The Tiny Faulkland Islands with a population of 3000 and 2000 privately owned guns ranks 2nd behind the US at 62 guns per 100 people and Yemen at 3rd with 14.9 million and a population of 28.1 million for 52.8 guns per 100 people. While the US has more than one gun per person, a majority at 69% do NOT own a gun which means there's people who have THOUSANDS of guns in their home. Gun control advocates suggests that a small number of people own the majority of firearms in the country and are STOCKPILING them Andrew Patrick for the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence says "It's an extreme gun culture. Our organization also believes that we should have freedom from gun violence" The NRA has a reputation has been tarnished because of mass shootings and continue to tell people to "arm up" from intruders, particularly foreign invaders or even possibly invade ANOTHER country!! However, 36% of people who don't own guns now say they may buy one in the future while 33% say they would never own one.. Gun owners are more likely to be WHITE MEN who own firearms and in rural areas where 46% of people own a g un compared to 28% in suburban and 19% in urban communities. Nearly half of Repubicans and Republican leaning independents own a gun compared to 20% of Democrats. Gun culture starts young with 67% of owners reporting there's a gun in the household they grew up in as they teach kids early about firearm safety and to target practice, particularly HUNTING.
