punishment is an important part of prevention and rehabilitation

I'm not even sure if that first part is accurate

Like it's necessary but I'm not sure how effective it is

You're ability to tell right from wrong objectively hasn't even close to fully developed by 12 years old. That's a fact. Anything contrary is an emotionally driven argument and should be discarded

You dont need a fully developed brain to realize that premeditated murder is wrong.

What did he do?

He brought a gun to school to shoot a teacher but failed because the safety was still on

kay yeah, try him as an adult

He's a kid and didn't know any better. No need to ruin his life.

He thought getting a gun and killing the teacher was good. Its later you find out murder is bad.

So if the kid removed the safety and killed the teacher, would that change any of your opinions?

What if it wasnt murder, but rape?

He's definitely about to do some time. I would hope he'd be in a juvenile prison until he's an adult though. He's way too young to be in the mix with adult prisoners.

Yes, it would obviously be way different if he took a life

What's the use in just locking him up forever when he didn't though? I'm not saying that justifies what he did and that he shouldn't be punished, I'm saying it makes a lot more sense to try and fix him rather than just ending his life now.

Charging as an adult is too much. He should get the maximum allowed as a juvenile though.

How is it different? He obviously intended to take a life. It was luck that saved her from him.
