I've had my Pro die no less than three different ways since I bought it. The power inlet port fried. Then the HDMI port stopped working. Now the system is overheating.

Also, when running in 4K, the OS is stupidly, unacceptably slow.

I wish I had kept my launch PS4.

Ps4 in general is made using poor components.

I've had 3 different ps4s die on me with hdmi port failures.

My current ps4's disc drive stopped working two months after warranty expired. Did I replace it? Nope. I'm still using the sonofabitch, I just bought an external hdd to use with it and now am all digital.

I hate consoles.

Do you remember how bad it was? There was that study, that showed about 52% of them failed within a year of being bought or something. That was when people first realised there were serious technology problems with it. I've had 3 myself. The first lasted 2 years, the second was just under 2 years, but the third has been fine for 9 years, I think. They are all the fat model.

I actually had a launch-ish Xbox 360 that lasted until at least 2013, when I sold it.

No idea how it lasted so long, given how badly designed the heatsink was.

I've had my ps4 for almost 3 years now (not launch model but 500gb v2) and my only issue was a thunderstorm fried the power supply component (I no longer keep my ps4 in rest mode) and was considering being lazy and getting a ps4 pro. Glad I didn't, it was an easy fix. $40 for a new power supply and $5 for some screwdrivers.

I just picked up a PS4 Pro and was amazed at how fucking loud the fans get. Makes the Dreamcast seem whisper quiet by comparison. Also, the base PS4 fully supports HDR which means there's even less of a reason to upgrade.

All my consoles still work perfectly. All the way back to my snes and I have every Playstation system including a launch PS4 and they all work perfectly.
You guys need to take better care of your electronics I keep my systems clean and well maintained.

I've never had a "Disc Read Error", is it the way you handle Optical discs?

Do you smudge and scratch the data side?

I must just be lucky. I've had my fat backward compatible ps3 for 10 years almost with no issues. My ps4 has had no issues either. Maybe I don't play them as much as others do.

I wouldve been an xbox guy if the 360 didnt rod on me 3 times. Each time with M$ just resoldering the issue and having it fail a few months later instead of just providing a new one.
I really like xbox, but 360 left me bitter.

Sony consoles are the only ones I've ever had hardware issues with

Original PS2 had an awful disc reader that eventually just stopped working, two different controllers managed to have R2 get stuck
My first PS3 was the super slim or whatever and it would overheat and freeze almost immediately when playing most games
Launch model PS4 would eject discs randomly

I've had every Nintendo console since the N64 and all handhelds since the Game Boy Color and they all still work properly as far as I know

And my 360 Slim and Xbox One never had any hardware issues

Just something you have to face consoles becoming more complex and them trying to make it as cheap as possible so people have a reason to buy consoles over PC

That said Sony has gotten full of hubris again and Microsoft is becoming much more appealing. Outside of some loyalists, I expect we'll see another shift back towards microsoft for the next generation.

The only console I've ever had crap out (other than from actual physical damage) was a PS3 that YLOD'd.

It was an phat model (one of the first non-BC ones, don't know exactly which model) that I bought second-hand, and it died in around 2015 or so.

I've had a PS4 Pro for about 2 years, no problems with it so far, aside from that it refuses to do 4K output with my TV (despite it being 4K), but I'm 99% sure that's the TV's fault, as the PC won't output 4K@60fps to it either (it will do 4K@30fps).

I got you beat lol. When ps4 launched, I waited in line on launch day for one, first in line. I got home, and it was dead out of the box. Had to call Sony and wait for the box, ship it in to be fixed, then get it back. At the time it took three weeks for the whole process. The one they sent back worked.... For a month. Same deal again. Third one worked for 6 months! Fourth one I have now hasn't had a working disc drive in years, but I'm all digital so whatever.

The first three were all hdmi port failures.

Can you imagine buying a brand new console and it doesn't work out of the box?

the console I had the most trouble with was the original ps2 (constant disc-read errors/red screen of death)

lucked out on 360, no major problems aside from inherent issues (a flea jumping off the console could cause giant fucking scratch rings)

GC was just a bitch because Nintendo's a bitch about 3rd party hardware but doesn't release enough 1st party hardware stateside to warrant them being bitches about it

I've had a lot of trouble with the following consoles:
PS2 - OG Fat disc drive motors broke
Xbox 360 - I think we went through 2 of these
Wii-U - Our first one had major issues with the controller pad losing connectivity to the console and had to return it for a new one
PS4 Pro - I'm on my third one in a year
