hate that shit

or when someone to your right or left is they're turning right, but don't signal. so you're waiting for them to cross and then they just go right, wasting your time. fucking signal!

No turn signals are a complete waste of time and only exist because of some dumb government bureaucrat who wants to feel useful. Same thing when you're trying to sleep and every 5 seconds you hear beeping because the damn bobcat outside keeps being put in reverse.

I always use signals and I use them in turn lanes out of habbit.

Nothing annoys me like being at a fork and missing out on opportunities to turn because people dont signal where they're going so I have to assume they're heading in my direction.

So I'm very courteous about using my signals.

Yeah, even though it's mostly redundant in that instance. A lot of the time I'll have hit the signal to change lanes just prior to turning and I'll just leave it on until I've completed the turn.

Doesn't happen to me but sometimes people get to the end of the lane and realize "Oh shit this lane ends and I don't want to turn" so it would make sense to signal out of it then. Most people just power their car over the solid lines though haha.

Mostly. Oncoming and side traffic don't necessarily know it's a turn-only lane. It's just easier to get into the habit than it is to think about whether or not I should be signaling anyway.

Usually only if it's a left turn. And even then, only if it doesn't have its own light.

I'm a stickler for using signals in all other circumstances though (with the exception of backing out).

It's not useless. If your car's over the paint or there is no paint, it can let people crossing know you're planning to turn. Especially if there's no crosswalk.

I always signal at those because people are also potentially turning right on red and, again, may not necessarily know what the situation is on the other side of the light.

You should.

When I see a signal-less driver in a turn lane, as a defensive driver, I'm trained to assume that they don't actually know it's a turn lane, and are going to make some dumbass decision to swerve back over a lane because they don't actually want to turn.

You should. The people directly across from you can't see that it's a turn-only lane and they don't have it memorized. It usually doesn't matter but I've felt bad a couple times, when a guy was turning left across from me and I was as well, he started his turn late becuase he didn't know if I was going straight or left.

I try to always use my signals appropriately. I'm sure I forget from time-to-time, but it's important to communicate exactly what you're doing/trying to do to other motorists.

It depends on the turn lane, but by default this. Signal your turns unless you're somehow going to increase confusion by using the signal (yes, I've been in scenarios where this was the case).

Yes. There might be a case where someone was not intentionally in the turn only lane. Their signal confirms they want to be there and aren't going to swerve into you.

Making assumptions while driving is what causes accidents.
