Landfall was this morning. There's definitely pictures of flooded buildings and streets and it's not over yet.

Every storm is hyped up as ultra dangerous and you need to evacuate for your life (and you should, because it's impossible to predict how bad a storm might actually be).

But when the storm doesn't live up to the hype, that's usually the last you hear of it.

A - take warnings at face value and possibly waste money and/or time leaving the area to be hit.

or

B - ignore warnings and maybe die if the storm DOESN'T weaken.

Irma caused a 50% of my hometown to evacuate and some people still have PTSD from the storm.

its pummeling the carolinas right now, hearing stories about houses flooded to the roofs.

its nothing in virginia though, some wind and a little rain. went driving through an area that floods horribly and found its mostly a ghost town after they implemented mandatory evacuations 3 days ago when the storm track had it coming right over us.

I heard some guy who has had multiple tours in Afghanistan say that the aftermath of the hurricane twins was worse than what he saw over there. Wow.

With hurricanes, most of the noise is made after it passes, cause you can't really get the full scale of damage until it's safe to go out and photograph the wreckage. So as it hits, you won't get much, but more of what happens over the next few days.

Back in my day of the early 1980s when i was in elementary school all of us kids had to sit in the hallways with a book on our head to keep us safe from a tornado.

That and pizza burgers for lunch or our lunch boxes from home anyway

What exactly would make the storm a non-dud in your eyes, TC? Wiping the entire state off the map?
