This is tough. I'd like to live in either Norway, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland or the Netherlands. I picked Scandinavia for the poll but realistically I'd live in Germany as I speak a little bit of German and have some contacts there.

It's more of a class issue than a race issue frankly. Although open racism is becoming more common. But I know plenty of immigrants who love it here and suffer fairly little from any sort of xenophobia. That stuff exists, but it's really sensationalized by foreign media.

I think part of the issue is that more upper class people end up spending more time around people of the country's culture, while the lower class people end up in ghettos where they are mostly around people of their home culture. More exposure leads to more integration.

I'm not sure you're describing the same problem that we're talking about, and I'm definitely sure that "failure to assimilate" is a very inaccurate description of anything in Sweden, since assimilation hasn't been the goal for a long time.

That's not really accurate. Upper class people spend tons of time around people from other countries. But they're also upper class.
Sweden doesn't have ghettos (Denmark does), but segregation is an issue. Curiously, anti-immigrant sentiments are really strong in municipalities with very limited or no exposure to actual immigrants.

And to complicate things a little, it's not so straightforward to talk about classes in Sweden. Yes, there are class differences, but the lines between classes have been blurred a lot thanks to the strong and mostly consistent rule of social democracy. So generalizations become a little trickier.

Oh okay, maybe I am mistaken, especially with respect to Sweden. My general observation is just that those who end up in ghettos usually end up being a lot less exposed to the country's culture, but if there aren't any ghettos then that wouldn't be an issue. This is what the case was with the terrorists behind the Paris attacks who were raised in Belgium from what I remember. They grew up in Muslim ghettos without much exposure to the rest of society.

There is indeed an issue with "parallel communities" in Sweden. It's been overblown by the far right, but likely understated by the left. So you're not completely off base. The problem is beginning to get addressed and investigated now, though, so hopefully we'll know what we're dealing with. That's an important first step in trying to figure out how to deal with it. Meanwhile, politicians from all corners propose very premature measures that sound good to voters, because that's how elections work.

1) Scandinavian isnt a country
2) how can you have Hungary and Romania as serious choices in this poll but not the U.K., Portugal or Spain?
3) best to live in? It depends on your situation, do you have infinite money? Will you have to work there?
