... why?

Both are on his way out. Their careers are done. 45 killed their political careers too, for not being extreme enough.

Why would they vote to confirm rapey Kavanaughty and give the alt-right, white supremacists and sexual predators the power to shape the nations laws for an entire generation? What is their motivation!?

Supreme Court is literally everything now. It's the last vestige of the American government that is:

A) fairly reliable
B) mostly bipartisan cooperation with reasonable outcomes
C) still fairly trusted by the people, who no longer trust any single other branch in Washington, whatsoever.

See, the Republicans know they're fucked in the midterms. Trump has completely fucked the dog for them. So they're trying to get someone in before they lose congress, especially since it's a lifetime appointment, and there's several high profile cases they're about to hear.

The biggest issue is, the Supreme Court has started turning partisan too. This country's government has been successfully dismantled.

It's been fucked for decades though. Trump just dumped plane loads of jet fuel onto a forest fire instead of putting it out.

American government has literally failed. It is borderline no longer functional at the the federal level. State level it varies, but federally? America is a barely functional, militaristically dominant, supremely wealthy, failed state.

The anacaps dream was fulfilled: to take over the best functioning government in the planet and render it useless.

The next target is local government that actually work, like California.

Here's the reality of things. People always like to downplay things, but we are heading for... Something. What that ends up being is still to be determined, but things can't continue the way they have for much longer, especially now that things have been accelerated by Trump, and the veil has finally been lifted on a lot of peoples vision towards the ineffectiveness of our government.

There's a significant, and growing, amount of disillusionment and resentment and frustration in this country among the people. Anyone who knows world history knows what that leads to, significant upheaval.

That doesn't mean some kind of war or revolution, just a major change.

When people thought that Clinton would win, a bunch of bloodthirsty knuckle draggers who call themselves the oath keepers were ready to rise in arms and get violent in order to uphold the constitution. These people are an armed paramilitary group. Turns out that 45 won, so these hatemongers crawled back into the woods (literally).

When people thought that Clinton would win, GOP congressmen said they would make sure the vacant SCOTUS seat left by Scalia stayed vacant FOR FOUR YEARS. Turns out that 44 won, so now theyre even ok with voting a rapist into SCOTUS.

All of the violent, racist, sexually frustrated people who are currently complacent and happy because 45 won and is making America great (white) again will get really violent and racist, especially if their dear leader gets impeached or if a democrat appoints the next SCOTUS seat. Heck, they might refuse to acknowledge the results in the 2020 election if 45 losses... and so may 45 himself

If the dems can nominate someone even half competent, and keep Hillary Clinton as far the fuck away from the spotlight as possible, they have a very high chance of beating Trump. Think of all the shit Trump has had happen in just two years. There's still two more years. Shit is insanity.

Say 45 loses. So he starts badmouthing the process before the vote. He says impending fraud is incoming. He says Russia IS meddling after all, so we need to postpone the election. What next?

Maybe he loses and refuses to leave office because there was Russian meddling to affect him, so he will stay in office until we can figure out what the hell is going on. What now?

Congress will roll over and show 45 its belly, as usual, unless democrats get a super majority in both houses or something. Right now theyre basically jabronis

America has been in a period of decline since the industrial revolution spawned a legion of corporations. Our federal government is effectively neutered by corporations. As cliche as it is to say, the corporations really do run the country, along with their parasitic lobbyists.

Trump is part of that process not the cause of it. He did not stage a coup with his army of real estate developers, he won an election because people were so pissed off at washington that they'd rather have a new york businessman and reality tv star run things than a slimely washington lifer.
