Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh said underoath that he had no connections to Yale prior to attending, arguing that hard work and ambition were the sole factors leading him to study at the prestigious institution of higher education.

However, that statement is verifiably untrue. In fact, Kavanaugh would be classified as a legacy student, because his grandfather Everett Edward Kavanaugh also attended Yale as an undergraduate student, The Intercept reported on Saturday, sharing an image of a 1928 yearbook.

I have no connections there. I got there by busting my tail, Kavanaugh, a who currently serves as a federal judge, said while testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week.

lthough legacy admittance is frowned on by some, elite universities such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton and many others, have long given preference to students whose family members have attended.

According to a 2011 report in The New York Times , Yale said that 20 to 25 percent of its students were classified as legacy students. A CNBC report from 2017 said that students attending Yales close rival, Harvard, were three times more likely to get accepted if they had a close family member who had attended.

Just one more to the list of lies that he told. However he is a republican so all will be forgiven like it never happened.

I dunno this sounds like splitting hairs to me.

I don't think "I have no connections" meant "No one is my family ever went there." i think it means Yale gave him no special treatment and he had no one at Yale involved in getting him a place there.

I mean do you have connections in the Pentagon? I assume no.

Well what If I told you that your great Uncle Horris used to work there 79 years ago as a chef?

Well you still have no connection to the Pentagon.

Is it tho?

Is there any evidence at all that he is a "legacy" student or that there was any differential treatment due to that?

When you apply to places like Harvard and Yale, they have a section specifically asking you if you have a relative who attended the institution.

If you answer yes, you are automatically categorized as a legacy student.

The point of the article is that it is highly unlikely Kavanaugh answered no, unless he had a major brain fart and forgot his grandfather went to Yale. Because otherwise he would have lied on his law school application, a big no-no.

Yeah it is. I dont care if it helped him get into Yale or not. When he is under oath and asked if he has a connection and your grandfather attended the school you answer truthfully. We are talking grandfather not some third cousin twice removed nonsense.

Do me a favor and look up hyperliteral for me.

This really doesn't seem to be lying under oath to me unless there is some kind of evidence that Yale more receptive towards him due to disant family connections.

Otherwise it really is just splitting hairs.

Reminds me of the H3H3 Lawsuit were Matt Hoss tried to sue them because they said "For several months nothing happened." and he revealed during that time he e-mailed them threats once. And therefore they are lying

Being a legacy is only to your advantage, so leaving one out on your application isn't "lying".

Though I don't think he left it off.

-He plainly lied about the vocabulary he used in his yearbook (boofing / devil's triangle).
-His claims about never passing out contradict his own written record.
-He mischaracterized the other witness testimony, claiming they refuted Ford when in fact they simply didn't remember and didn't corroborate (as a judge, he is well aware of this distinction).
-He lied about his legacy status at Yale.

Kavanaugh perjured himself, again. Regardless of whether or not he's a rapist, he's unfit to be a judge, let alone a Supreme Court justice.

Children of alumni get preferential treatment at places like Yale.

Like this is probably more significant than knowing the chef at the cafe at Yale. Even if the Chef was also your uncle, unless your uncle was also a graduate, then the grandfather would be a much more important connection.

It shows his character. A grandfather also isnt some distant relative. There is no reason to not mention him attending the school. It is not that big of a deal compared to the other lies he has told but is still a lie none the less.

Or watch them golf with each other everyday and share a lie journal over beers

This is not quite the same when Yale is a well known center for the elite. Pretty sure thats the same college Skull And Bones is at. And it was around in the 1920s
