Thanos has also been doing some antihero stuff. Red Skull never has AFAIK. Before comic books, he was a professional liberal politician Spencer went on to work in politics. He twice ran for the Cincinnati City Council as a candidate of the progressive Charter Party. Spencer also worked for a Democratic politician. He's taking liberties with character consistency for the sake of spreading his ideology through entertainment. The sad part is, he ends up portraying the Red Skull as a good guy and a sympathetic hero in his attempt of trying to say you are evil if you believe those things. It's like someone making Hitler give a speech about how animal cruelty is bad, trying to say that people who are against it are evil, but the only thing that this would accomplish is make Hitler a more likable person.
