The big gold statues?

Collecting three of them takes you to a bonus level where you play as that animal friend. There are an absolute fuckload of tiny animal statues and you get an extra life for each 100 you collect within the time limit.

Use barrels to blast hidden walls and look out for those hidden barrels that rockets you to the end of the level lmao.

Going off the games in the OP I'm guessing you're playing a lot of these for the first time on the SNES Classic?

If you can, give DKC2 a shot as well. It's like DKC on steroids.

There's also a DKC3 as well. I definitely enjoyed it, but a lot of people don't seem to like it.

DKC2 is the best of the three by miles. The first and third are also good, just not at the same level as 2.

2 is really good but I'd say the original DKC is the best and also has the best soundtrack.

Nah, I don't mean the level design or anything. I mean the entire atmosphere of the game feels off.

Not exactly. That only happens if you didn't hit the halfway point barrel yet. If you did, you start from there.

Also, if you got to the mini-game inside a bonus room, you start out from the bonus room's exit, so absolutely no progress lost in that case.

Well, it is pointless to play as him. He offers absolutely nothing bar a single bonus stage(by bouncing on the water. Literally the only use for it in the entire game, what a waste of an interesting mechanic) and being able to stomp-kill a single enemy that Dixie can't(said enemy is quite rare in the game anyway), in return for a bigger hitbox, no helicopter spin, still being vulnerable to attacks from above when holding barrels(unlike Dixie who gets coverage for both above and front) and slightly more sluggish controls.

I don't think I've ever played as him in normal play, unless Dixie took a hit, or I had to temporarily switch to him so he could toss Dixie to access high ledges.

It's only required for that one thing, but I think it helps out in a few other levels.

The angle he throws barrels is also helpful. I always found the first boss much easier with him than with Dixie, for instance.

I gotta say, it looks amazing at 60 FPS. I've seen 30 FPS footage of the games before, but it really doesn't do the game justice.

DKC is great, with the only real weak point being the boss fights. DKC 2 fixes that, and it adds a few more things to do to keep you occupied. Definitely recommend.

I remember staying up late, playing it on GBA while watching adult swim bullshit in the mid 2000s. Really great game, and Im surprised I actually beat it since I lose interest in games pretty quick.

Yes Kiddie sucks bad. Only reason hes useful at all is because he has the good version of partner throw (the one from DKC 2) and that one section where he has to skip along the water (which the game did nothing to show you thats what you had to do)

Ive watched speedruns of all 3 games and the order of usefulness (as related to speed) I see that Diddy >>>> Dixie >>>>>>>>>> DK/Kiddie

Also does anyone think its hilarious that DK is only playable in one of his games in this trilogy and he sucks in it

DKC1 is great, but DKC2 is an absolute masterpiece. I prefer DKC3 overall, but it hets a lot of flack. It's a little different, but more refined towards my tastes.

DKC3 gets props for blending open-ended adventure elements into a platformer.

Like, it was really cool jumping into the game and having the ability to go to different areas, collect items for sidequest and stuff, instead of just going on a straight line through the game like most world maps.
