I haven't played it, but I did watch the video when it came out.

I lost a lot of confidence in the series after FFXIII disappointed me and this game had such a rocky development. It lost a lot of hype after it actually came out, too.

I may play it one day, but learning that crucial character info is in DLC really sours things.

I'm still waiting for an eventual version of the game that actually weaves all the dlc into the story instead of having it sectioned out in a menu. If that never happens I don't know if I'm ever going to play it, just sounds like way too disjointed of a mess at this point with no option to do that and a full extra season of isolated episodes on the way.

It's not a bad game, but it's not that good either.

Definitely bottom tier for the series despite some strong points. Because even those strong points are even fully realized. Cast is great but they have nothing to do. Gameplay is fun for a while until you realize there's no tension to anything because it's impossible to lose. World is beautiful but there's no reason to explore because you're just following trackers and markers for quests. And they're rarely unique quests.

Though I had to stop watching that video because his point about the cities needing walls around them strikes me as extremely picky.

Disappointment doesn't automatically mean bad, it just means you expected it to be better.

Honestly I couldn't even handle the opening 5 hours before uninstalling. Just no appeal whatsoever.

Eyepatch makes excellent videos, and this was no exception.

it's a game that's gotten a lot better over time. it launched without a lot of the features it has today, like being able to control all your party members, or driving off road.

combat is fun, but not nearly as fun as it looks. it *looks* awesome when you're watching a video, but in execution it's a little disappointing. still fun, but it seemed like it was going to be better.

the plot overall is mediocre. the characters and their interactions are pretty entertaining, though.

visually, it's pretty great.

mediocre might be a little harsh, but it definitely didn't live up to my expectations for it.it's very shiny and pretty and the big mood feels of road tripping with ya boys carries it pretty far, and given that it's regularly on sale for a good discount, i'd say it's definitely worth giving a try. it's just got a lot of things holding it back from being great.

I got about twenty or so hours in, but I got bogged down in side quests and levelling my chocobo, so I didn't actually make it far into the story. I dropped it completely once Breath of the Wild came out and haven't gone back (though, I did briefly try out the multiplayer when it launched).

I did enjoy what I played of it and the central cast were great. Maybe when it's finished, I'll get the complete version and pick up my save where I left off.

I think most people who played it when it came out enjoyed it. If you waited to play it, you were less likely to.

yeah, the side quests in this game are awful and in great abundance.

Can you play and just ignore the sidequests?

It's okay. Had a few fun moments here and there but had some story moments that were head scratching towards the end.

I'm also confused why there's a clamor for dlc to patch up the story. Felt complete to me as is.
