I'm planning on re-subcribing to Humble Monthly since I have a coupon and Hidden Folks will be one of the games, but the headliner is Overwatch, and I am unsure if I will redeem the code myself or not (I know that I will need to install Blizzard's game launcher)

1. Does the game have a high or relatively higher barrier to entry?

Part of the reason why I like Rocket League so much is that it is easy to pick up, and I can not play it for several months and return without skipping a beat.

2. Are there just-for-fun-oriented gametypes/modes and in general a lot of multiplayer options?

For roughly the past 15 years, Halo has been my go-to online series. I really appreciate the wide variety of game types and options that I am given. I like to avoid stuff that people take super seriously and are meant for "hardcore" players since I'd rather have fun.

I'm quite great at FPSes, so I'm not looking for easy stuff, but I'm aware that there is a competitive component to Overwatch, and I'm curious if there's plenty there for me to do if I don't want to take part of that.

I also find slayer/deathmatch game types to get a little boring and vastly prefer objective game types, so I hope that there's plenty of that.

To answer super briefly it's like any other online shooter, it's not too hard to grasp briefly but players have strategies and know the maps and game modes so well it will take you 10x as long to get comfortable now as a new player than if you got the game on release.

My wife plays it all the damn time. There's so much shit happening on screen I cant even keep up sometimes. It's not like say CoD where you find a setup you like and just stick with it every map.

You NEED to be able to main like 3 characters minimum and they all have different skill sets and attributes and abilities and specials.

There are of course for fun modes and training stuff to fool around in. Different game modes depending on how much you're looking for a challenge.

She usually plays objective type modes like defend certain areas or where you have to accompany a payload across the map to a destination.

I've always been a CoD player and if you're no stranger to online FPSs then you'll be fine just be prepared for the hardest obstacle which is learning not only the game and maps, but being able to also main a few characters all at the same time

Did you ever play TF2? It's like that in terms of a game.

As for just for fun, they have casual and then a bunch of arcade modes. Random heroes is a really good one to just chill in if you're looking to have fun.

Yeah, I was an excellent Medic in TF2. I also played Engineer a lot, but I'm guessing that I had a lot more fun than I was good at with that class.

Why would I have to "main" three different characters in Overwatch?

you pretty much have to fill in for what the team needs

at least thats what a decent team does

so if you main nothing but DPS and your team needs a healer, well, you can't do it.

so yea, you need to learn a few characters

You dont specifically need to, but a lot of people like flex players. This is a team game and as you might suspect DPS are incredibly common picks. Knowing how to play at least one tank or healer can really help out, but honestly the game has so many fun characters youre bound to like a couple of them in each role. I was never into FPS or online multi stuff at all, but Ive put a TON of time into Overwatch playing with some of the b8anime crew

This. Unlike CoD or whatever you cant just have 10 snipers on a map you need healers, DPS, tanks. I dunno what game mode my wife was playing today but if someone on your team picks the character you want they are eliminated and you cant even chose them lol
