American automakers still make the best pickups/SUVS, genuinely make decent sports cars, and have improved leaps and bounds in the sedan segment (though the big 2 in Honda/Toyota are still by far the leaders in that segment)
now is as good a time as any to grab an American car

I drive a Ford and it's an 04 and runs like a dream, tho I have had to put some money into it. I used to be a car salesman for a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership, and hell yeah people live Dodges. Chsrgers and especially Challengers are sexy as. Then there's the beastly Hellcats and more recently but the boner inducing Dodge Demon, the owner used to do burnouts as he left the dealership and they were awesome.

Fuckin' blend doors.

I loved my Explorer (had a '97 with the 5.0 and awd), but I had the broken blend door. Wasn't going to pay an arm and a leg to pull the dash, so every spring and fall, I'd take the glove box off and open in manually.

Clearly doesn't know shit about cars.

Like, you can MAKE cars from the 70's and 80's fast, and a few even look cool, but it almost explicitly requires technically breaking the law, and it'd be explicitly illegal in California.

Here in the UK, quite a few chavs and boy racers buy the Ford focus. But you hardly see any any one in a chevrolet and chrysler. Dodges are non existent here. And you see maybe one or two jeeps every once a while.

But recently the boy racers shifted over to volkswagen golfs. And second hand sciroccos.

Popularity it goes from mostly German, Japanese and Korean cars here in uk. Then UK cars is the class below them with the land rovers and mini coopers and jaguars.

As a UK fella, I would like to drive a jag or a range rover. But they are expensive as fuck. So im forced to go with a Honda.

Every car manufacturer makes something good, and they all make something shit. Outside of engines, your main problems in modern cars is going to be electronic - Chrysler, in particular, has always had horrendous electronics, and it really came to a head just before the Fiat merger. Most cars before then cannot be reprogrammed, meaning if you have a software issue, you need a new computer.

GM's biggest electrical issue, in my experience, is their Remote Door Lock Antenna - it controls a shit-ton more than just the door locks (TPMS, alarm, etc.). Before that, it was their Passlock ignition-lock system (it's why there are so many Passlock-equipped cars with a replaced ignition cylinder).

Ford's is the aforementioned blend door.

Mechanically, GM's V-6 and V-8 engines without variable valve timing are almost indestructible, so long as maintenance is done properly. The VVT engines are pretty shit, though - the vvt solenoids go out all the time. The Duramax diesels are pretty good, too, especially if you do all the deletes (DEF, EGR, etc.).

Chrysler's Hemi is pretty good, but their non-Hemi engines all suck (especially the water pumps). The Cummins is a beast, especially after deletes, and of the Big Three, it gets the best fuel economy before and after mods.

Ford's 4.6 is solid, but also a slug. The 6.8 V10 is shit (spark plugs get stuck AND it's slow?). The 5.4 is powerful, but certain models have that shitty head that spark plugs get stuck in and break off. The 5.0 is awesome, and all their eco-boost stuff is great, so long as you maintain them properly. The 7.3 diesel is awesome, the 6.0 made by International is shit, but if you throw enough money at it, you can make it reliable, Jasper's reps tell us that they're shipping out replacement 6.4's DAILY, so those are shit (also made by International), and thus far, the only problem I know of with the 6.7 is directly related to fuel quality and people running it out of fuel.

I have the opposite experience - the only Trump stickers I see are on American vehicles. The only liberal stickers (I say this because, for whatever reason, it's never JUST Hillary - her sticker is next to Obama's, and Kerry's, and Gore's), are always an import.
