They seem to have VX Ace, XP, 2003, 2000, and MV.

I've had a bunch of ideas tumbling in my head for years and was thinking of trying my hand. >_>

You're gonna want to go with the most recent one- MV. If you grab one of the early ones it won't be long until you want to grab the latest one. Best of luck to you, I've been a fan of the series for a long time. It's a commitment to wrap your head around these games, but once you've got a grasp on it, you'd be amazed what you can do.

They're all okay but VX Ace and MV are the most recent so I'd go with them, if for no other reason than the sheer support that's available (scripts, graphics, etc). I actually like the look of 2000/2003 better but good luck finding resources for it.

Agreed. Although I'd push for MV for this reason. It has the most support right now, and the level of community support had always been a huge part of this series.

How limited is MV or these rpg makers in general?

Because of the latest programs scripting capabilities, not that limited at all. But it goes without saying it's best suited for RPGs, especially like the classic ones you'd find on SNES.
