You know. When you go to some old workplace for whatever reason, and there are still several girls and guys working the exact same jobs, after you left quite a few years ago?

I don't think it matters if they're working for the same company, but have been promoted at least once, but...you do see people just working the same job, year in, year out. A lot of them don't seem to mind at all. Good for them, I guess. I suppose these days you're just happy to have a job, whatever it is.

After that many years they probably make decent money and don't want to deal with the extra responsibilities that a higher position comes with.

That many years? Plenty of people never get pay boosts in the same position.

What's wrong with finding a comfortable salary and cruising on an easy job? They probably care about their personal lives and little about their work life

I was thinking more people in very low paying positions, such as retail and barwork. Most people doing white collar stuff probably get promoted a little.

I always wonder that too. There are people in the mall who have worked the cash register since I was a kid

i know of 2 people that have been working for walmart for over a decade. i don't know them well, but i do remember them from years ago when i worked there a few months after high school.

both of them were finally promoted a little after a decade of being there to department manager positions. typically these only pay $12 an hour, both of them were making sub $10 during most of their time there- so I'm going to guess they aren't making the upper average for a department manager.

i don't talk to either of them though and haven't for years so i wouldn't know for sure, but it seems p bad.

My aunt had her job since she was 16 until she retired, though she did climb the ladder that entire time.

I think she had her last position for about 10-20 years, though.

There's a chick thats worked at the same Wendy's I started at in 2009 (and quit a year later) who first got her job in 2007 and she's not even a Store Manager. I couldn't do it.

Yeah this is really fucked. I work in IT and I see people working the same shit job and never moved up, never got a raise and I think some have been there longer than me. It's like, what are you doing!?

There are people I work with like that. Mostly middle aged women who've just been grinding through the same stuff for 15 years. It's not even a work balance thing either since where I work is the most easy going place ever and they still moan about worrying about work at night. It's not a bad job at all but still something I would hope to moving past in a year's time or so. I suspect they just know they wouldn't be able to handle anything tougher.

If you job is easy and you get decent pay, why bother moving up if you're satisfied.

A lot of people at the factory I worked at were there for 10+ years. There's not enough positions for everyone to move into management, so some people are inevitably gonna be stuck where they're at

It's not decent pay for them. I know damn well it's not. I suspect a lot of them have outside income and are too scared to do anything with their lives.

There are some like that where I work (been here 20 years but have been all over different positions and promotions) thatve been doing the same thing for ages, but its almost all middle aged/older women that I assume have a spouse that is making most of the money and they just like the job.

Younger people generally come in for a few years then move on to a bigger location or something.

The longest I've ever stayed at one place was 4 and even that felt way played out. 3 years is my limit usually.

The longest I had was 3 years. I don't know why anyone would want to work for the same company for years and years, anyway. This bizarre idea so many people have of "loyalty" to the company. The company doesn't give a shit about you. It doesn't even know who you are.

Technically it's "accounting manager" but it's basically book keeping while also handling whatever issues pop up. I don't wanna say how much I make because IT guy is probably stalking me, but it's enough to live comfortable in my economic region.

It's a small company, so it's not like I can move up much. It's my position, and then the next position is CFO of the entire company. So, one way of looking at it is I've been in the same position for 10 years, another way of looking at it is I'm first in line for becoming Controller of the company.
